This school park is a park where Brandon usually plays. There's only Martha and Rachel in there. They sat side by side on a long bench. The fountain pool surrounded by flowers is an interesting sight to see.
“How are you?” rachel asked, full of anxiety.
Martha did not answer, her tongue was too hard to move. Only a tear that then dripped without asking.
He still remembers, a month ago Rachel woke him up from his sleep that was too deep. Rachel's voice that called out to him wholeheartedly, made her consciousness like it was called.
She remembers how Rachel came to her house. Neither Bary nor Ivana, always praising the kindness of a Rachel but she sees nothing more than her usual figure.
The girl who was currently sitting next to him, was an innocent girl that Bary and Ivana had brought into her house as her daughter-in-law. The girl who had a very modest family background and she thought there was nothing to be proud of from a Rachel.
But I don't know what this girl has that Ivana and Bary love her so much. Every time I get home from work, the first thing Bary asks is Rachel.
“Have eaten son? How are you today?” those two questions were like the obligatory questions Bary asked his son-in-law.
Asking Rachel news is felt more often in appeal to ask the news of his own wife. Is that how scared Bary is, Rachel doesn't have a problem living in his house?
“Ajakin Rachel is mah, if you are traveling. He's a smart, sociable kid. Don't keep that distance from Rachel.” Bary said one time.
“Ngapain I rhyme with him? The guy I don't know is him. Inget yes, mas and Ivana who brought him into this house, not me.”
“Lagian mas, I went out of the house to meet my friends. Do you know who my friend is? By bringing Rachel, what can I show off to my friends?” Martha did not like her husband's request.
“Loh, does he have a ghost to show off? Make the same contested mamah?” Bary asked back.
“Yes, no. But I mean, what can I be proud of in front of my friends if they have Rachel's background? Her mother's a baker, she graduated from S1 economics but just a burden on her husband, so?” Martha turned around not accepting.
“Mah! Keep up your mama!” Bary's starting to get inflamed. He thinks Martha's remarks are outrageous.
“Papah who do not wait!” Martha barked back.
“Since women enter it into this house, mamah so not feel at home. Every time I try to refrain from seeing him that you treat as if he were a pivot in this house. Inget pah, she's just a daughter-in-law. If Nata doesn't like him and he gets divorced, he just becomes someone else!”
“Mah! Can't you see that Nata's changed since meeting Rachel? Our son improved his attitude. He's not crazy working anymore.”
“Yes, that's what mama means. Rachel changed mom's son. Now Nata even dares to speak high with mamah just for the sake of her.” Martha's eyes barked inexcusably.
Every day, that kind of thing is the subject of debate between him and Bary. Martha was tired of all the family problems. Until just before Bary died, Rachel was the one being sought. I don't know what the last message her husband said to the daughter-in-law he didn't like.
One day, Rachel makes a mistake. When Martha held her first funeral, Rachel was asked to entertain her guests. Rachel who's been in the kitchen all day looking mussy. While giving food to his friends, Brandon suddenly ran and hit Rachel.
The drink in Rachel's hand was spilled messily and hit the clothes of one of Martha's friends. Martha lightly raised her hand at Rachel for the first time. He cursed Rachel. After Brandon who often made her embarrassed, now Rachel who makes this family look low and despicable on the appeal of family friends.
From that day on, cursing Rachel seemed to be the most pleasant outlet to channel her emotions. He liked it every time he managed to make Rachel intimidated, downcast to tears. He was eager to see Rachel finally give up and decided to leave.
But this woman is too stubborn. Too stubborn, until when Martha is trapped in a black hole and almost gone for all eternity, Rachel's stubbornness makes her wake up. He was too stubborn to accept all the harsh and bad treatment while saying,
“Rachel never hated mama. Rachel loves as much as Rachel loves Mom Eva.” Rachel's one speech was like an alarm that awakened Martha's subconscious in despair and almost gave up.
“Mah, mamah why? Does anyone hurt?” Rachel reacted quickly upon hearing Martha's sobbing.
Martha shook her head slowly. He is very upset at himself for not being able to say anything when there are many things he wants to say to Rachel.
“Sorry that Rachel makes you uncomfortable. Let Rachel call Ivana or mas Nata. Mom wait a minute.” With full self-awareness Rachel was about to move on. He does not want to provoke Martha's emotions that make Martha's condition even worse.
But just as Rachel was about to move, suddenly Martha's clumsy hand held her back. Rachel stopped continuing her steps when she saw Martha crying while shaking her head as if asking Rachel not to leave.
“You can still get Rachel here?” rachel asked doubtfully.
The old woman nodded.
Rachel sat back and looked at her hand which Martha held tightly. This was the first time Martha held him tightly.
“Mamah don't cry, Rachel's not going anywhere. Rachel's just scared, mom's not comfortable sitting with Rachel.” Said Rachel, while staring fixed Martha's face that has not been symmetrical.
With all his heart he wiped Martha's tears but instead made Martha cry even more. Just a roar that Rachel heard without a single clear word.
For a while Martha cried a hiccup in front of Rachel while holding Rachel's hand. One of his hands that still works, toggle to touch one other hand that is weak. He took off a ring from his ring finger. Then he put the ring in Rachel's hand.
“Thy do this for Rachel?” ask Rachel.
Martha just nodded.
“Thanks mah.” Rachel could not hold back her tears. Whether this is a parting ring or something, Rachel doesn't understand it. But then, with her trembling hands, Martha pinned the ring on Rachel's right hand ring finger.
He also reached into his pocket to get his cell phone. The phone always displays a new message page for Martha if you want to write something there. Ivana has this initiative because she realizes Martha cannot speak and only one hand is working.
The trembling hand wrote something and then showed it to Rachel. Rachel read the writing with tears in her eyes.
“Go home, accompany mamah at home.” Write Martha.
Rachel still could not believe what she was reading. “You asked Rachel to go home mommy?” rachel asked in a stammer.
Martha responded by nodding slowly. That one simple answer left Rachel speechless.
“Bby, Rachel hug mom?” rachel's voice was barely heard.
Martha did not answer, she chose to lean her body and embrace Rachel. The two women were now embracing with a roaring feeling in each other's chests.
Martha is now well aware that Rachel really brings calmness to her life. In fact, Bary's choice was good and right that Rachel would bring peace to her family. There was a sense of warmth and peace as the body of Martha and her thin daughter-in-law embraced. In a few moments, they cry together.
Errors, not only them. Two people in the distance there also shed tears seeing the two poles were finally able to embrace each other.
If all this had happened long ago, wouldn't they be so happy?
