Hearing her phone ringing, Kirana let out a loud sigh. He had not finished examining the pile of reports that were before him, the disturbance came again. He picked up his phone and shook his head slowly reading the name on the screen. He touched the green button without any spirit.
“You know what time it is ‘kan, Zi?” kirana sarkas.
“I'll talk quickly.” There was a sound of laughter from across the street. “There's a good movie tonight. I'll pick you up after work. At six o'clock you should be already standing in front of the entrance. Don't be late or your security guards will kick me out again.”
“I don't,” protest Kirana. Then there was the sound of the phone call being cut off. “Great. One more man who thinks he can manage me.”
Since they were an organization on campus, Fauzi became his close friend. They sign up to be a committee at an event. That silly young man who knew so many funny things always made him laugh. Although they now work in different companies, in one month they met more than five times. Dinner together, make a coffee, watch a movie, or just sit on the terrace of Kirana's house while enjoying the night air.
Both of his parents liked Fauzi very much and were very familiar with him. They hoped that one day their daughter would marry him. Kirana was expecting the same. If he wants to get married, he wants a guy like his best friend. Humorous, kind, and responsible. But at the age of thirty-five, Fauzi has not been interested in a serious relationship with women. Many people like and wish to be his wife.
His little heart kept pushing him to express his feelings. The few times they were together, he had many opportunities to pour out his heart to Fauzi. But every time he refused to follow the impulse. What if Fauzi doesn't have the same feelings as her? What will happen to their friendship?
Never before had his best friend fallen in love with him. No one. They like to be around him, share their lives, spend time together, but that's it. Never more. What happens more often is that he falls in love. Love that claps one hand.
At six o'clock in the afternoon, Kirana stood in front of the entrance to the building where she worked. Not long after, a car stopped in front of him. He knew the owner of the car. A man got out of the car and turned around, he greeted her with a smile. The man approached her, kissed her cheek, then smiled.
“Ready?” tanyakanya.
“Siap.” replied Kirana amusedly. Fauzi took his hand and with his other hand he opened the door. “You're overdone, Fauzi.”
“Only the best service for beautiful young women.” Goda Fauzi. Kirana laughed as she sat in the front seat. At the same time, his best friend closed the door.
Fauzi takes her to a mall that has a cinema in it. He bought food and soft drinks before approaching the theater room where the movie they were about to watch was being played. Kirana is confused to see they did not buy the ticket and just passed the counter. Fauzi then took out a ticket and gave it to the officer guarding the entrance. Kirana looked towards the poster.
“Comedy?” Kirana rounded her eyes.
“I'm not here to see tears. I've seen enough of him while I've known you.” Fauzi pointed at the row of seats and invited Kirana to sit first. Really a polite guy.
“When did you buy the ticket?” kirana asked as soon as her best friend sat by her side.
“At lunch break.” he replied quickly.
“It's just right for you to turn off the phone before I have time to answer your call.” Kirana squinted her eyes. Fauzi laughed.
“I know your schedule. Go home from work and you'll go home. Did what? Watch movies until bored then you cry until you sleep.” Fauzi stuffed the popcorn into his mouth. “I won't allow that to happen. At least, not tonight.”
“Thank you.” Kirana smiled. He knew that he could always rely on his friend in times of sadness. He was one of those friends who knew him well.
“Sama-sama.” said Fauzi.
They walked out of the theater without stopping laughing. Fauzi took her to a nearby restaurant for dinner. After ordering food, they talked about the film. Unconcerned by the sharp gazes directed at them, they laughed as much. When their food came, their laughter was gone.
“Thank you, Fauzi. My cheeks hurt from laughing too much.” said Kirana sarcas.
“After three days of crying until your eyes are swollen, I prefer to see your face flushed with laughter.” Fauzi blinked one eye.
“I wonder if you will also cry when you lose someone.” Kirana squinted her eyes. Fauzi laughs. Actually the question was serious, but he let her not answer it.
The man gave her his cell phone. Kirana frowned. He looked at the mobile phone screen and a beautiful woman smiled at him. Because the short-haired woman used so much makeup, she could not see her real face. Kirana raised her head and turned back towards her best friend.
“I don't understand.” says Kirana confused.
“What do you think of him?” ask Fauzi.
“Hm. She's gorgeous. Looks like he's good.” Kirana said. Always the same type. Smart beautiful women dress up and wear fashionable clothes, have a sweet smile, neat teeth, big eyes, clean well-groomed face, beautiful hair, and glowing white skin. Seeing Fauzi looking at him expectantly, he sighed. “I don't know him, okay? I can't give you a rating.”
“Name Sarah. We officially dated a week ago.” I am Fauzi with a proud tone.
A huge rock as if dropped on her head, Kirana shook her head. Fauzi has a girlfriend? Since when? He never told me about the woman he was close to. He also never said he was in love. Kirana felt pain in her chest. His eyes are starting to heat up. Why didn't he say? He will stop hoping that his best friend already likes another woman.
Again, he only hoped for something unreal. Fauzi was close and familiar to her not because she was someone special to him. Although they spent a lot of time together, Fauzi was familiar and kind to his father and mother, he was not in love with her at all. Friends without clear boundaries are a bitch!
He knows he has to learn, learn a lot from his past experience. Dexter, Gilbert, Chandra, and now Fauzi. They only see him as a friend. Point. Years of good friends, they are not as interested in him as a man sees a woman. In the end, their hearts were always anchored to the same type of woman. Beautiful, attractive, well-dressed, dressed up, and have a good nature. Complete package.
Kirana is not that kind of woman. Ratri yes, Kirana no.
He had great hopes for his relationship with Fauzi. Because that man was his last hope for marriage. He is no longer young. Old virgin at age thirty-five. Every single woman at this age must be worried about her future. Marrying someone new is not a wise choice. She would rather marry a man she knew well. Among her other best friends, Fauzi is the only one who is unmarried. Unfortunately, now that he had a lover, there was no hope for him anymore.
“One more time, thank you, Zi.” Kirana said as Fauzi stopped her car in front of her house.
“Not a problem. This weekend we have dinner together?” bring him.
“You have no show with Sarah?” kirana Goda. Fauzi took his hand.
“When I have a boyfriend now, our relationship has not changed, Na. You are still my best friend.” Fauzi squeezed his hand slowly. Kirana nodded. The man got out of the car and opened the door for Kirana. “I'll go after you get inside the house.”
Kirana opens the fence. He came in and put the padlock back on. He waved to Fauzi before closing the door. The man smiled as he returned the wave of his hand. Kirana locks the door and hears the subtle roar of her best friend's car away. The tears that had been pressing out from earlier, now flowed profusely wetting his face.
In the end, he would be alone at night.
