Chapter 9: An Explanation that Appreciates

Yu Xiaocao rubbed his nose, ashamed of his ignorance. She was a girl who lived in the interior of the land, so she did not understand the dangers of the sea. It just looks like a milky white and crystal-like 'mushroom', but it's actually potentially deadly. He really learned something new today!

"Liquid mud!"

The brothers heard the sound of slashing nearby and turned towards the voice. They turned their heads and saw Yu Hai coming out of the water. She was not wearing top clothes, revealing her slender and sturdy chest.

"Cao'er, look at a[a that I found!" Yu Hai exclaimed as he grinned and revealed with his mouth filled with white teeth, which made his skin appear darker. However, his tanned skin made him look more masculine!

Little Shitou immediately rushed over and shouted "Abalone is an abalone! Dad, you found abalone!"

Xiaocao was curious and hurriedly left. He saw some greenish-brown clams in Yu Hai's big hands. Each of them was about a dozen centimeters long and looked rather simple. Is this a very popular abalone?

"A balloon of that size would cost at least a few hundred copper coins, if we sold it in the city. I got nine of them. If we sell it to a big restaurant, we should be able to get two or three teal!" Yu Xiaolian also came and exclaimed in shock.

Two or three taels? Based on Xiaocao's understanding of the current economy, two to three teals could buy three to four hundred catties of first-rate white rice, one hundred catties of first-rate pork. about seventy or eighty live chickens are fat... Two to three teals were enough to buy one year's worth of food for his entire family, which consisted of more than ten people.

However, Yu Xiaocao knew the nutritional value of abalone. His initial plan of using abalone to nourish his family was disrupted by the value of abalone.

Xiaocao had a basic understanding of his new grandmother's personality. With her grandmother's temperament, she would destroy anyone who dared to suggest that they eat abalone! If they bring it home, then it's like meat loaf towards the dog -- it will never come back!

Yu Xiaocao's eyes bulged, then he acted like a spoiled child and asked, "Dad, is this all for me?"

After hesitating for a moment, Yu Hai nodded and said, "I've mentioned it before, if we find an abalone, we will use it to cook nutritious food for you and your mother. We were lucky enough today. If we can't finish it, then we can eat it slowly after it's dried."

Yu Hang and Yu Xiaolian looked at their father with a skeptical gaze, They know exactly what kind of person their father is. He is someone who will work with all his heart without complaining about anything. Even if Madam Zhang made such an unreasonable request, she would never dispute it.

Even Shitou, who was five years old, knew if they brought her abalone back, then they would not be able to touch her, let alone eat her slowly!

Yu Hai felt uncomfortable with the way his children looked at him. He pretended to cough and leaned over to insert his abalone carefully into the bucket.

Yu Xiaocao's eyes looked around and said, "Dad! Let Saaya handle the abalone."

Yu Hai stuffed his abalone which was worth around three teal into his daughter's hands without hesitation. He stood up, looked at the sky and said, "It's getting late, we're gathering a lot of seafood today, so let's get to it now!"

Yu Xiaocao poured all the seafood in his basket into his father's large barrel, and carefully stuffed the abalone into his basket. He looked around and ran towards the cliff. He took some seaweed and sea lettuce, then used it to cover the abalone safely.

They actually gathered a lot of seafood today! The barrel that Yu Hai carried was as tall as Shitou and contained their crops. Yu Hang and Xiaolian were also holding a small bucket full. Even Little Shitou's little basket was full of seafood.

"Brother Dahai, this shell you caught is at least twenty to thirty catties. When dried, it still weighs about five catties. Brother Dahai never fails every time he moves! Do you have any tips? Teach me some!" The speaker was a young man in his mid-twenties, he had a short stature, an upright face and brownish skin.

To avoid disputes while hunting at sea, the inhabitants of the village have their own fixed place. So their outcome will depend on their own luck. However it was different for Yu Hai. He did not often collect seafood in the ocean, but he came back with fruitful results every time.

Many villagers wanted to learn from him, but they could not force themselves to ask. Wherever it was his own knowledge to make a living and feed his family. If they learned his skill, it was the same as snatching food from his mouth. Luckily Liu Shuanzhu was close friends with Yu Hai. If others ask, they may be at odds.

"Uncle Shuanzhu, there are many coral reefs around the cliff that no one has ever visited. You can check it out at low tide!" Yu Hang knew Liu Shuanzhu was a close friend of his father, so he did not hide from him. Ida did not reveal her family's treasure hunting grounds.

Liu Shuanzhu looked at the villagers who were eavesdropping on their conversation and laughed loudly, "Xiaosha, do you think we can climb a cliff, climb a mountain and enter the sea, just like your father? Very dangerous on the cliff. That's where Uncle Liu Si died! Uncle Shuanzhu you still want to live for a few more years!"

Yangfan's wife walked up with her daughter and asked, "Hey, where's your wife?"

"She wasn't feeling well today, so she stayed home to rest! How's brother Yangfan's leg?" Li Yangfan was another good friend of Yu Hai. He had recently encountered a storm on his way back from the sea. His head hit the reef and his leg was injured. Therefore, he was recuperating at home now.

Yangfan's wife asked about Liu Muyun's health with concern, then replied, "He's fine. The injury to his leg was not serious, but our family ship was badly damaged. Ahai when you are free, can you come to check if it can be fixed?"

Everyone in the nearby fishing village, knew that Yu Hai was a very capable person. When it comes to fishing in the sea, even three to five ordinary people have no appeal. The most recent example is early spring this year. Back then, the Old Yu family caught a shark that weighed about three hundred catties. They've gotten some teal with just shark fins. It was not that the villagers underestimated Old Yu and her stepson, but asked Yu Hai, they would not even be enough to feed the sharks, let alone hunt the sharks.

In addition to his fishing and hunting skills, Yu Hai also learned how to repair ships without a teacher. He was able to fix most of the fishing boat problems and defects. So even though many Dongshan Village residents were envious of Yu Hai's skills, they would only gossip behind his back and not dare to offend him.

"Good! Tomorrow when I return from the mountains, I will go to see him. Yangfan's wife, this is some barnacle meat. Brother Yangfan really likes to eat this. Take it back for him, so he can eat it while he drinks wine." Little Shitou's basket was filled with barnacle meat and Yu Hai generously offered it without hesitation.

Yangfan's wife smiled and shook her head. He looked at the quiet Xiaocao, who was standing beside them, and said, "Save for the children to eat! Xiaocao, how is your health? Is your head still hurting?"

Yu Xiaocao politely smiled at him and replied, "It doesn't hurt anymore, grandpa You said I can remove the bandage in two days."

Yu Hai chatted for a while with them before bringing the children home. When he entered the door, he saw his wife, who was supposed to be resting in the room, serving dinner from the kitchen. Thus, his expression immediately turned grim.

"Oh! You guys caught quite a lot of good things at sea today. We're going to party tomorrow!" Madam Li's sharp voice sounded behind them.

Yu Xiaolian was so angry that she piled the bucket onto the ground and shouted at her eldest aunt, who was in the middle of her room, "The eldest aunt, instead of Grandma telling you to cook at home? You wandered around the village and just came back. You just want everyone to go hungry, don't you?"

Madam Li glanced at him, but she actually did not care about the little boy. He sneered, "Someone can pretend to be sick, but I'm not allowed to go out for a purpose? How dare you speak to me like that? You have no manners at all. If you are not careful. You won't be able to get married in the future!"
