“Sorry, Bene. I can't come to New York.” Cathleen responds to her ex-lover's secretary's plea with a rejection. His eyes glanced at Gerald who was curled up on the sofa.
“Just a moment, Miss, until Mr. Edbert recovers. Please help me.” Bene to begged in a voice that sounded very sad as if Edbert's life was on the verge of death.
Cathleen paused for a moment, not responding. He changed the position that initially fell asleep, then moved to sit and lean on the head board. “I already have a husband, Bene, can't just go home. And my relationship with Edbert is also over.” While not letting go of the gaze from Gerald's back, he tried to explain his current situation.
“I know, Miss. But, do you not have the twelve words with Mr Edbert?”
Cathleen was speechless, biting her lower lip because of course she had pity. He is a person who is easily touched by his heart. But, leaving the life of the restraint man was his choice, and now he already has a husband.
Cathleen becomes worried, confused between being willing to pay attention to Edbert or choosing indifference as if she had never heard the news of her former lover's illness. But, Cathleen is not someone who can be seen in the bodo period like Gerald, she is a woman who easily cares for anyone.
So, with humanity and a little bit of residual flavor in the corner of Cathleen's heart that was still left for Edbert, he decided to pay attention from afar. It was impossible for a Cathleen to let someone else be so seriously ill that she would lose her life.
“Maybe I can only persuade her to eat over the phone. Doesn't matter?” Cathleen made an offer that could be done right then and there.
Bene did not answer immediately. He was waiting for a response from his superiors who had heard the conversation since.
“Bby, Miss, we do video call only.” After getting a signal from Mr. Edbert asking for a video call, Bene responded to an offer made by Cathleen.
“Call it, huh? I've already confirmed the lights.”
“Just turn on the sleeping lights, Miss. That's enough.”
Cathleen sighed, but she finally complied as well. “Oke.” He also turned on a sleeping lamp attached to the wall beside the bed.
“Where is Edbert?” ask Cathleen.
Bene did not respond, simply pointing the screen at Edbert who was lying limp with a pale face.
Cathleen immediately closed her mouth to her nose when she saw how her ex-lover was doing. His eyes were glazed at that moment. “Ed, why did you become that simple?” It was hard to hold back the tears from breaking out. Finally his cheeks got wet too.
Edbert who saw Cathleen's face even in dim lighting also commented on the smile. “I miss you, Cath. Can't you come back to me?”
Cathleen covered both her eyes using her palms. He did not want to show his tears that suddenly slid down after seeing Edbert's condition. Even his throat felt choked, unable to let out a word. And in the end he hiccups.
“Did I cause you to be like this?” ask Cathleen. He bit his lower lip so that the stuffing that came out did not get harder and made Gerald disturbed.
“No, all because I wanted to get your attention.” Edbert blames himself, he never considers everything that happened in his life was the fault of Cathleen, a woman who was loved so much to the deepest corner of the heart.
