Ferdian was wide-eyed, hesitating to get close to the old man with the crumbling skull. The smell of carnation tickled his nose and almost made Ferdian spit out his entire stomach. Thomas smiled at Ferdian's face that was struggling to death to hold back the nausea.
"I think you should familiarize yourself with this, the appearance of the passengers of the carriage is mostly not in good condition."
Ferdian looked at Thomas and listened to his explanation. Occasionally his eyes glanced at the old man with that blank look.
"Can you change his condition? I'm so uncomfortable Thomas."
"Hmm, Louise might be able to help you." Thomas frowned for a moment, the beautiful woman in soft yellow clothes just appeared.
"You call me Thomas?" he asked with a smile, so sweet that Ferdian did not blink.
"Clean him, I don't want Ferdian to fail his first assignment."
Louise glanced at Ferdian and smiled seductively, "Sure, I'll tidy up a bit of his appearance."
Louise approached the old man and took him away from Ferdian who kept looking at him.
"Where is he going?" Ferdian.
"Hmm, magic box?" answer the mysterious Thomas.
"Hadi's name, 70 years old, died after being brutally assaulted by someone. He lives with a grandson who is still in high school. Your job in addition to finding out who the attacker is, you also have to complete the last wishes of Mr. Hadi. He was eager to see his granddaughter graduate with satisfactory grades." Thomas describes some of Ferdian's work.
"Wait, should I pretend to be his grandson's private tutor? My grades are bad for some Thom lessons!"
"Hmm, how do I explain it to you?" Thomas looked at Ferdian for a moment. "You don't need to be her private teacher, you just need to give the boy a life spirit. I think he needs it after losing his grandfather."
Thomas made Ferdian walk, peeking at the full contents of the carriage. "Do you see a spirit lost in there? They have largely not perfected his death, some are stricken with the last wish, some are .. hhm, do not realize if he has moved nature. They exist in a condition that could be said to have unfinished world affairs."
"You're going to learn it slowly and I hope you can improvise with the circumstances. Your goal is to get them back on track."
"This much? Do I have to finish all by myself?"
"No, I have several couriers including you, sir."
"Why are we called the Courier of Death? Isn't that identical to the messenger of the lifethrower?"
Thomas smiled broadly, "You'll find out when that time comes. Why and why is it called the Courier of Death."
"Oh, so? I can interact with them I mean another courier?" Ferdian asked again and this time looked even more enthusiastic.
"Hhm, if I allow it you can of course meet but if you don't, even if you handle the passengers in the same carriage, I'll make sure you never meet." thomas's answer made Ferdian even more curious he wanted to ask again but then,
"Thomas, he's ready!" louise's voice sounded from the other side.
"Alright Mr. Ferdian, you have little time. I'll wait for you three days from now."
"What's? Three days, can I do it?"
"Must do as best you can, sir."
Thomas lowered his fedora hat a little before he entered one of the carriages.
The whistle sounded out of nowhere, and the carriage walked slowly. Ferdian could see Thomas smiling at him and then disappearing quickly along with the thirteen carriages. The platform returns dark, the clock's back ticking normally rotates according to the clock in real nature.
He turned to look at Mr. Hadi, the old man is now much better. Dressed clean in a white suit, his face was also clean from drops of blood, looking fresher even though it remained with an empty eye view.
"Meet me, I'm Ferdian."
Mr. Hadi turned his head slowly still with a blank look, "So, I want to go home. Can you take me home?" the door was slow and weak as if without hope.
"Where is my father's house?" Ferdian asked, he approached and touched Hadi's shoulder.
Miracles happen they penetrate the dimensions of space and both arrive in the yard of a house. Ferdian scanned around, quiet and dark there was only a five-watt bulb light illuminating the terrace.
"Ilham, my granddaughter .. Grandpa's coming home!"
Mr. Hadi walked slowly towards the door of the house, his sobs signifying a deep longing for Inspiration. He continued walking until at one point he was like hitting an invisible barrier wall. Many times he tried to get in but always failed. The invisible wall prevented him from approaching.
Mr. Hadi was limp and bowed lethargic, his tears kept dripping. The pitying Ferdian finally approached and invited him to sit down casually under a banyan tree right in the courtyard of the house.
"The father's world is different, you can't just go in and out of limits."
"I miss the same Inspiration, I want to hug her."
Ferdian smiled wryly, he could feel the sadness of Mr. Hadi. "How long did Inspiration stay with my father?"
"From the baby, I found him lying in a garbage can. He's a wasted child, the first time Ilham held my finger that time I immediately fell in love. The people here no one wants to take care of him I finally take and I consider as my own son and grandson." Mr. Hadi bowed lethargic, the sadness still did not go from his face.
"Where are you?"
"I don't have children, I live alone. I used to be married but whether I was barren or my wife who could not have children, we finally separated after ten years of marriage."
"Why not see a doctor, sir?" ask Ferdian again.
Mr. Hadi shook his head, "My consideration at that time was the wife's feelings. If the check turns out the result he is barren heart must be destroyed, so I think let us not know each other's condition and live happily, but it turns out it's wrong. We parted after constantly bickering about the child with no clear end."
Ferdian sighed, imagining being in the position of Mr. Hadi must be difficult condition. He patted Mr. Hadi slowly on the shoulder, "Sometimes what we think for the family is not necessarily in line with the pair."
"Betul mas, but I have no regrets at least I've struggled to maintain our household. I never thought about getting married again. The loss of my wife brings love within me. Until I finally found Inspiration."
The night is getting late, Ferdian and Hadi still survive under the banyan tree staring at the simple house that looks gloomy. Hadi kept telling me about himself. Ferdian needed information to approach Inspiration. Until it does not feel the dawn adhan almost reverberated.
"Better you go, business Inspiration let me handle."
"Thank you, I expect much of the same mas."
Mr. Hadi disappeared slowly.
Ferdian let out a long sigh, he looked back at Mr. Hadi's house. The lights were turned off and the window opened. The young man's face poked out from the window. Ferdian watched him closely and waited for the right time.
At six o'clock in the morning, Ilham left the house. The teenager was neatly wearing his school uniform did not forget to bring provisions for lunch.
Ferdian frowned, "Didn't he live alone? Who's cooking the food?"
Ferdian watched closely, not wanting to assume further he finally decided to follow the brown-skinned teenager.
"Okay Inspiration let us know."
