Chapter 9
"What's cooking today, huh?" mumbling Bu Ismiyati as soon as the middle-aged woman arrived at the vegetable shop.
The mother-in-law of Tiara again met Adam who was busy choosing fresh vegetables to buy. "Mas Adam?" greet Ms. Ismiyati to the neighbor she had not long known.
Adam immediately turned his eyes to Ms. Ismiyati. "Good morning, Mom!" adam said to Ms. Ismiyati.
Ms. Ismiyati looks dizzy looking for the figure of Manda. It seems like Adam went shopping in the same stall of people himself without the company of his wife.
"Am Adam alone?" tanya Bu ismiati curious.
"Yes, Mom. I shop by myself" said Adam.
"Shopped itself? Where's Manda's mom going?" ask Ms. Ismiyati again.
"You have another job, ma'am. So I'm the one shopping" Adam said.
Ms. Ismiyati was more astonished by the household between Adam and Manda. A few days ago, Ms. Ismiyati also saw Adam carrying plastic vegetables. This time the middle-aged woman again met with Adam who was busy shopping for kitchen needs at the stall without the company of his wife.
"Mas Adam used to do his own shopping, huh? Does Adam know kitchen spices?" ask Ms. Ismiyati.
Adam just smiled. The man did not give much response. "I just bought my wife's order" Adam said.
Ms. Ismiyati looked awkward when she saw adam sorting through the vegetables. "If you may know, what is the matter of Mbak Manda until Mas Adam had to shop for vegetables this morning?"
Looks like Adam doesn't want to discuss his household affairs with Ms. Ismiyati. "Manda has more important business. It doesn't hurt if I help?"
Ms. Ismiyati also stopped interrogating Adam. The middle-aged woman was even more sad when she saw Adam put vegetables in his grocery bag.
"Bu Ismi want to go shopping for breakfast?" adam asked the mother of Dimas.
"Yes, Mas. All shopping for dinner," replied Ms. Ismiyati. "Mas Adam wants to go shopping for breakfast?"
"Yes, Mom. Today, I really want to eat balado. Balado potatoes are just as good as eggplant balado as they are good," Adam said while taking eggplant and potatoes.
"Mas Adam kaya has been shopping a lot, huh? Mas Adam does not look stiff choose vegetables," said Ms. Ismiyati.
"Wife's Adam's a rich man, what the hell? May-can tell husband vegetable shopping early in the morning gini," muttered Bu Ismiyati.
The next day, Ms. Ismiyati again passed Adam on the road. However, this time the man did not go for shopping, but rather to take care of other household chores.
"Mas Adam? Where are you going with a big bag?" reprimand Bu Ismiyati to Adam who is currently carrying a large bag containing clothes.
"Good afternoon, Mom! I want to go to the laundry place to send dirty clothes to wash," said Adam.
Again, Miss Ismiyati was surprised by Adam's behavior. Not enough to shop for vegetables, now the man also has to take care of laundry clothes.
"To the laundry? Didn't Manda wash her clothes at home?" ask Ms. Ismiyati.
"The dirty clothes are a lot, ma'am. I want some laundry" replied Adam.
The middle-aged woman was silent for a moment. It should be Mandalah who should go to the laundry place. Why go to the laundry place alone still have Adam working? Thought Miss Ismiyati.
"Why did Adam have to go to the laundry? Where's Manda going?"
"Manda is there, Mom. But Manda is doing another job" Adam said. "I'll excuse you, ma'am?"
The next day, Ms. Ismiyati increasingly passed Adam. Whether it was when Adam bought vegetables or cooked side dishes, or when Adam delivered dirty clothes or took clean clothes from the laundry place.
Both groceries and laundry were taken care of by Adam. Of course this makes Miss Ismiyati astonished. What does Manda do as a wife? Why would Manda bother her husband who is tired of making a living? That's what Miss Ismiyati thought.
"What kind of wife is Manda, anyway? How could-can rule Mas Adam to the whole," muttered Bu Ismiyati increasingly feel sorry for the fate of Adam who judged unlucky by him.
Though previously, Ms. Ismiyati was very envious and craved the couple. But not anymore. To him, Manda was just a careless wife and did not know the rules, while Adam was just a submissive man who could not keep his pride as a husband.
"It's all a wife's job. Is she not ashamed to tell her husband to shop just as nice as clothes?" oceh Bu Ismiyati was not inexhaustible with the behavior of Manda who was judged wrong by him and behaved improperly to the husband.
"Still mending Tiara with my son. It's not as if my son was made a Tiara babu," said Ms. Ismiyati. "Pity Mas Adam. How can he survive with a wife like Manda? from the outside they look harmonious and romantic. But it turns out Manda's just a wife who doesn't know the rules."
