Fadhil had just returned from the mosque in the boarding school, after performing the Isya prayer'. Fadhil sat on the porch looking up at the night sky. The moon appears perfectly round, emitting bright light in the dark of the night. Then, the wife appeared to come from the kitchen carrying a cup of tea for her.
"This is the tea, Mas" said Tia, putting a cup of tea on the table in front of her husband.
Before going to bed Tia and Fadhil always take time together to chat and tell each other activities for a day, or just talk from heart to heart.
"Thank you, Dek" said Fadhil, taking the cup in front of him and sipping it slowly as it was still a little hot.
Tia nodded, smiling back at her husband. "Together, Mas!"
Actually Tia wanted to ask her husband something, but she seemed hesitant to say it. She did not want to be rash about the sensitive enough thing, especially if her husband knew it was her general idea.
Tia bit her lips as she felt confused to start the conversation. He had difficulty putting together the words that flashed through his mind.
After drinking his tea, Fadhil put his cup on the table, then turned to look at his wife who looked a bit strange than usual.
"Daddy, what's wrong?" fadhil asked when he saw his wife seemed anxious and busy with her own thoughts.
"Ehh .. em .. anu, Mas!" Tia seemed nervous and confused to answer questions from her husband.
"Is there anything you want to say, Dek?" fadhil asked later, when he felt his wife had trouble speaking.
Tia looked fixedly at her husband, then she nodded at him twice.
"Let's say!" fadhil orders while rubbing one of his wife's shoulders gently.
"Ec ... Mas, what do you think of polygamy?" tia asked finally, trying to make small talk.
Fadhil frowned as his wife suddenly asked that.
What's wrong with Tia? Did something happen to make him nervous! inner Fadhil.
"Polygamy is permissible in Islam, but it should not be arbitrary. When someone wants to polygamy then it is recommended to carry it out in accordance with sharia. First a husband must be able to be fair, but fair is very difficult. For example, a husband is not allowed to lean more towards one of his most beloved wives, so ignore or abandon the other. If a husband is worried about not being able to be fair, then you should only marry a wife, and avoid polygamy. For injustice will bring punishment from God."
"Secondly, it is not permissible to neglect worship. A person who wants to polygamy should increase his devotion by diligently worshiping. However, if by polygamy it makes him further away from God because it is too busy to divide the time taking care of his wives and children or busy having fun with his wives, so he neglects his worship, he said, so polygamy will only make slander and bring evil to him."
"Thirdly, a husband should be able to keep the honor of the wife. A wife's shalah cannot be separated from the responsibilities of a husband, who will elevate his position or lower his honor. The husband should be able to properly educate all his wives, without exception. If one of his wives is released to do what he wants, then the husband will also sin. Especially regarding his biological needs, a husband must be able to divide his time equally, there must be no difference so as not to cause injustice."
"Next, you must not choose a sister. A long time ago Umm Habibah once offered to the Prophet to marry his sister, and he refused. Because if polygamy with blood, it will affect the system for inheritance, and also its status in the future."
"Last noticed the number. One of them came to the Prophet and asked if he had eight wives when he first embraced Islam, then the Prophet said, 'choose four of them'. Thus are some conditions that must be considered when someone decides to polygamy. Polygamy also makes it easier for a woman to enter heaven. Because, that's why Allah allows polygamy" said Fadhil at length.
"Does Mas Fadhil have a polygamous desire?" tia asked her husband.
Fadhil did not answer immediately, then he smiled at his wife. "What is this thing that's making you restless in the morning, Dek? Why suddenly ask about polygamy?" Fadhil asked his wife.
"Honestly, Tia's not ready for polygamy, Mas. Tia felt unable to share her husband. However, all decisions are in hand, Mas Fadhil. If Mas Fadhil wants it then Tia will try to learn to be sincere," said Tia with teary eyes while looking down.
"You're funny, Deck. Did I say polygamy until you were worried about it?" ask Fadhil again.
"What if Fadhil was asked to marry a woman who was abandoned and had trouble caring for her son alone? Is Mas Fadhil going to agree to marry the woman?" ask Tia.
Fadhil seemed to be silent and thinking. "If polygamy is the only way and it is an urgent situation, then I will do it because of God, certainly with the consent and pleasure of my wife. But, if there are other ways, Mas will choose other ways than polygamy. Because, to be honest I have no intention of polygamy, especially I worry, if later can not be fair. So, instead of bringing good, it is by polygamy even brings bad. Moreover, the punishment of Allah in the Hereafter will be very painful for a husband who cannot be fair to his wife. Nauzubillahimind!" fadhil expressed his opinion.
Tia smelled her smile, relieved by her husband's words, stating that he had no intention of polygamy. But there is still something he wants to know.
"Thank you, Mum. But, what do you mean by that other way, Mas?" tia asked who was still curious about it.
"Other ways, for example, can be by giving compensation, providing scholarships for his son's school, giving him a job, or marrying the woman to a man who is willing and able to marry her. So that polygamy is not the only way to go," said Fadhil expressed his opinion. "Where? Is there anything else you'd like to ask, Dek?"
"No, Mas. Tia already understood from the recitation of Mas Fadhil earlier, and felt very relieved to hear the opinion of Mas Fadhil," said Tia .
"Close!" fadil said to his wife.
Tia complied and shifted closer towards her husband. "What's up, Mom?"
Fadil took his wife into his arms. "Don't worry about unnecessary things, and don't keep the problem alone. I'm beside you to always protect you, Dek. Tell me to share your problems and solve them together. I love you, Dek!" he said he kissed his wife's forehead.
Tia felt overwhelmed by this situation, then tightened her embrace on the husband. "I love you so much too, Mom!"
