My Heart Was Wounded Deep
Chapter 55's

Logan was sitting at the kitchen table with his right hand clad in a cast when Rey arrived. From the news circulating in the city, Logan said it was not the result of their fight, but it should be. Rey remembers he managed to dodge the blow that eventually landed on the brick wall behind him. From the voice that came out of Logan's mouth at that time, and his face that was deathly pale, of course at that time his hand was broken. Logan just didn't want everyone to know that he was the one who suffered the most from their little fight. It would ruin his image as a tough guy, that a man whose body is small and lacking experience in fighting could get away from him without any meaningful injuries.

But it was that broken hand that might have kept Rey safe. Logan obviously couldn't raise his fist after that.

" Thanks is coming, Rey." Mother Logan's facial expression is colder than she's ever seen before, and her stiff mouthline shows she's as angry at Rey as Logan. Ms. Rini was just trying to display a polite demeanor.

" It doesn't matter." Said Rey. "I'm sorry I made everyone so hard."

" Hey boy," her mother was there, sitting on the sofa with her father, who also greeted her. Helen shifted to the center, and tapped the spot next to her. "Let's sit here with us."

Logan's father is a man who doesn't talk much, like Rey's father. Rey likes Logan's father far more than her emotional mother. And hope he still likes that guy after tonight.

" Want me to get you a drink?" lori's older sister and her husband were there too, along with their two children, who were still sitting on the Junior High School bench. Rey disagrees with the children being involved in the matter. He said it was adult business. Kikan also does not need to be bothered by the next generation. But Lori's family thought that they would discuss about the public threat, so they had very different views about Kikan.

" Not for me" said Rey. "But thank you."

Logan's mother sat at the end of the chair beside her husband, and used the remote to turn off the TV. The sudden silence was gripping, with so much tension in the air.

" I'm sorry you felt the need to fight Logan at the coffee shop." Said. "Will you tell us what made you hit him?"

Rey reminds herself that they are good people, not only her mother's best friend, but also members of the community she has long known and admired. They wouldn't have acted in such an absurd manner if they didn't feel they had a compelling reason, if not for still not letting go of family members who they consider to have been snatched death due to the deliberate evil actions of someone. Rey has a big role to play in their suffering and loss, but getting to know Kikan again has now made Rey realize that the situation is not as black as they thought it was.

" Logan must have provoked Rey's anger" his mother slipped the sentence before Rey could answer.

Rey has only been here for five minutes, and the scene that appears is a mother defending her child against another mother who is also defending her child. He did not want to be the culprit of the feud between them, but there must be someone who protects Kikan. "He was bothering a woman. Not only that, which caused the woman to drop the only precious thing she had."

" He's not just any woman, he's my brother's killer" Logan said. "So don't expect us to feel sorry for him. And I was just trying to talk to him. What happened to the laptop it wasn't my fault."

Directly hot to hear this lie, Rey was ready to answer when Logan's mother raised her hand, implying to let him speak first, "Logan should not have followed the woman into the bathroom," he said. "We admit it, but you know what she's been through. You know what Kikan has done to our family. You can't understand how grief and anger sometimes overwhelm common sense? Can't you let someone else, who doesn't have a close relationship with our family, help that woman?"

" It can be if someone else is willing to move forward" Rey replied. "But I found no one, other than Mother Kikan and some of my friends who would side with her. Ms. Lis was not a defender one could hope for. I'm sorry if I had to move forward, but I won't let Logan or anyone else torture Kikan. That won't bring Lori back. And Kikan had served seventeen years for the incident. He declared himself innocent. What if what he said was true?"

" Of course you're not serious!" mama Logan.

Logan stood up. "I never really hurt him. When I was driving my jeep, when I looked back and saw me, she was scared."

" Because you're acting like you're going to cause an accident! and don't tell me otherwise. Like I said, my son was there. He told me what happened." Deny Rey.

" I'm just a prank!" Logan's grin, as well as his voice implying as if Rey had been arguing excessively. "And that laptop, he dropped it himself. I didn't touch it."

" You let him out of Kikan's hand, but that's the only thing he has that can help him run a business."

" Effort?" logan. "As if he could just work"

Rey suspects Kikan will soon be able to make more money than Logan, but he holds his tongue.

" After all, who cares about his silly computer or his business!" hatch Logan. "He's killer. Why are we suddenly taking care of what he has or not?"

Rey's jaw was bluffing so hard that she had trouble speaking. "It's better you don't bother him, and so is my son. Or we'll keep dealing."

" Logan won't hurt Jason!" logan's mother exclaimed as if she was offended by that sentence.

" He almost hurt Jason." Those words were spoken by Rey's father. Rey is shocked to hear her father make a sound even though it's not surprising. His parents were as protective of Jason as he was.

Logan turned the eyeball. "That's bullshit."

" What do you defend in this, Rey?" Lea, Logan's brother is speaking. "Why do you bother defending Kikan? He let you down, as well as everyone else, when he killed Lori and burdened you with the child you had to raise yourself. Dare to bet, she deliberately made herself pregnant, to set you up."

" That's not true!" sahut Rey's.

" How do you know?"

" Because I'm the one who's going through, remember? She's not the girl who tried to seduce me into fucking her. She was a virgin when I was dating her."

That statement leaves them stunned, and may embarrass Rey's mother. Helen covered her face and shook her head, but the truth was still the truth. Now it's time to show everyone the other side, the things Kikan does that make her seem perfectly normal, not the teenage girl who lost her mind in jealousy.
