Derek looked towards the bed, towards Amy's pale face. The girl was still asleep with the infusion still attached to her arm. Doctor Barkley, who had been treating him all night, was seen sleeping on the couch. The sunlight that pierced through the window glass indicated that it was morning.
Derek slowly touched Amy's forehead, feeling relieved because the skin he touched felt cool. The girl had a fever last night. The medication Barkley's doctor gave her through a direct infusion into her veins seemed to be effective and worked well.
Waiting for those blue eyes to open was Derek's main wish at the moment. Bleached blush was seen surrounding Amy's right eye, Dr Barkley said it was caused by a bump on the rock that caused the girl's forehead to tear. Derek didn't want to sleep even though his body was tired.
Derek's hand was looking down the blanket . touching Amy's warm palpable finger, involuntarily stroking it over and over again.
The touch felt in her hand brought Amy's consciousness to the surface. His eyelids slowly opened, then the blue eyes blinked when he looked at Derek's face.
"Finally you wake up" whispered Derek softly, relief flooding his tone.
Amy blinked again, trying to clear her memory of what happened.
"I ...." Amy stop. His throat feels very dry. He swallowed.
Soon Derek stood up to take the water glass. Then help support Amy's back before sticking the glass to the girl's lips.
"Drink ... don't talk first or your throat will hurt." Derek ordered slowly. Amy said, She was grateful when the water started to wet her throat.
"Thank you" whispered Amy.
Derek nodded. The sound of movement from the direction of the sofa made Derek turn his head and see that Doctor Barkley was awake and looking towards the bed.
"My patient's mood is conscious. Why don't you wake me up, Derek?" Dr. barkley stepped towards the bed. Pick up the equipment and start checking Amy's vital signs. He checked his pulse, measured his blood pressure and body temperature.
"Well .. thank goodness. Everything's fine now, Derek. You find her in time, if you're just a little late, this beautiful girl will meet her end because of severe hypothermia."
"Thank you, Doctor." Amy smiled at the doctor who helped her.
"Call me, Barkley. Beautiful," said Barkley, winking.
Derek looked sharply at the man who had served in his family. Barkley was over 50 years old, never married again since his wife died, and now the old man winks at Amy.
Derek cleared his throat. Looked at Amy smiling.
"It looks like you're right ..everything is fine." Derek said flatly.
"Yes. I'll replace the medicine with a capsule that she has to take. So this infusion will be off soon. Remember the intake of nutrients must go in to speed up his recovery," suggested Barkley's doctor without being aware of the changes that had occurred on Derek's face.
"Then do it quickly. So Mike can get you back home and you can take a quick break." Derek's cold, shaky tone made Doctor Barkley turn his head. Instantly he laughed out loud ....
A red hue flashed across Derek's face as Barkley's doctor teased him with a word of jealousy. But quickly her face returned flat so Amy hesitated to see the man blushing.
"You need to rest too Derek, you look tired. I'll be fine after this." Amy said
"Yes .. You better go take a shower and shave a young man! You look terrible!" Doctor Barkley again chuckled with his words that deliberately teased Derek. The man touched his hair-filled jaw.
"Do what you need to do. Then go home ... I'll take care of myself!"
Derek's answer made the doctor laugh again, he swiftly took off the infusion on Amy's arm and covered the puncture marks with sterile cotton. Then clean all the equipment.
"Remember what I said, beautiful lady, you have to eat and take medicine to recover quickly, you need a lot of energy to face this one Langton Lion."
"I'll take you Doc! Hurry over!" exclaims Derek sharp.
Doctor Barkley's amused laughter echoed again.
"You can always comfort me Derek .. exactly how your father feels." Barkley's doctor stepped out of the room. Derek immediately followed her towards the door.
"No .. You don't have to drive me, I know the direction. Just take care of the beauty" Barkley's doctor blinked his eyes at Amy before leaving and closed the door.
Derek sat on the edge of the bed looking at the bandage covering the wound on Amy's forehead. Then to his right eye surrounded by bruises, towards Amy's blanket-covered shoulder, Derek knew there was an elongated scratch on the girl's smooth skin, also on the soles of her feet.
"Am I that terrible?" Amy looked at Derek who stopped looking at the bandage on his forehead.
"Yes. You're like a panda that hasn't eaten in days."
Amy's eyes widened at Derek's words. Derek is eager to ask Amy why she entered the forest, where she was headed.
But all his might was to hold all those questions. The timing wasn't right, Derek thought.
"If you're feeling better, I'm gonna go take a shower and change my clothes." Derek looked at his disheveled self. Amy immediately nodded, smiling to convince Derek not to hesitate to leave him.
Derek leaned over, touched his lips to Amy's bandage-covered forehead, then brought his face closer to Amy's. Slowly stroking Amy's lips with hers. Amy's heart beat faster receiving the gentle treatment Derek did.
"I'm not leaving you alone. Reggie's coming to bring you food."
Derek whispered in Amy's lips and straightened up, looking at Amy's face, who looked surprised to hear Reggie's name, and then passed from the room.
