DEAPECTRUMS
016. NEW HOUSE

With quick steps I ran away from my original place. I don't care if I step on a thorn or a nail. I also don't care if I'm gonna kill you if I step on a mine because I promised Gumi I'd pass the entrance exam. I ran without knowing what was in front of me but I did not feel any stepping on.

I kept running until someone grabbed me by the shoulder and told me to stop. I stopped as the man said. Not how long was the sound of continuous gunfire followed by the screams of several girls. Hearing it made me shudder because I didn't know what was going on.

They tied our hands again and took me and the other children away from the place still with their eyes closed. When I got to the place I was guessing was the room where we were gathered, they untied our hands and blinders.

I rubbed my eyes to justify the vision. Several women came out of this room after unbinding our hands and blindfolds. I counted only eighteen children including myself in the room, which meant that nineteen children did not pass the entrance exam. I looked for Cleve's figure and found him in the corner of the room, he was still shaking until his body was shivering. I approached him to calm him down.

“You okay Cleve?” I asked to hold both of his shoulders to stop the trembling in his body. “We have passed the entrance exam. Calm down..”

“I saw him Bee,” Cleve said looking at me with reddened eyes. “They shot at the boys.. They shot at the kids who didn't run.” Cleve hugged me. “Since the beginning of the bond that closed my eyes were not tied tight so I saw everything. I know that there are no thorns, spikes or mines like they say. That's why I ran like they told me to. You're the last runner, and after that they shoot at kids who don't run.” Cleve whispered in my ear.

I was really surprised by Cleve's words. I remember Gumi saying that there would be no second chance if I did not pass the entrance exam, Gumi also said that no one could get out easily from Poegriye Island.

I was really lucky because of my sharp hearing. I heard the sound of the pistol in the cock before they shot at the children who did not run because of that I ran. Even I have to thank Cleve or the kids who ran first because by hearing them was fine, I got brave to run as well.

“Can you guys shut up for a minute?” Suddenly Mom and Bu Bianca came into the room. Cleve took off her embrace and we looked towards Mother who was speaking. “Happy you passed the entrance exam. With this you officially become Gyeld Enn Chourius college students, hopefully you can survive and graduate from here. Find your luck by throwing away the fear of death.” With a flat face Mother spoke after that immediately exited the room.

Ms. Bianca took us to a room with nine beds each with two sections, the top and bottom. This is the room for our new students. Cleve and I chose a bed that was close to the window. I'm at the bottom while Cleve is at the top. Ms. Bianca told us to take a shower before going to the dining hall for dinner at seven. But I chose to lie down for a while.

“Bee, let's take a shower.” Cleve got down from his bed at the top of my bed and sat down on the side of my bed. I was busy rereading my favorite book. “Live us who have not taken a shower, all the children have gone to take a bath and now maybe they are surrounding every corner of this college.”

I watched this room that was this very long and it was true that there was no one here except me and Cleve.

“Let's take a shower, now it's six while seven o'clock we should already be in the dining hall for dinner.” Add Cleve.

I glanced at the wall clock hanging in the middle of the room, only this time I saw the actual shape of the clock. It had three needles of different sizes and functions, and the circle was surrounded by numbers, ranging from one to twelve. I don't know how to read that clock.

“What's up? You've never seen a clock?” Cleve asked as if he knew my thoughts. “I'll teach you how to read a clock, but instead teach me how to read. How?” Smile Cleve.

“Good.” My smile.

At exactly seven o'clock I was with Cleve walking towards the dining hall which was in a special building located to the east. We were trading and laughing at Cleve's jokes, I was trying to laugh at the riddle he was asking and he answered because I couldn't guess, and it made us laugh.

“Why do rabbits eat carrots?” Cleve asked, I shook my head in ignorance. “Because if rabbits eat rice, what will we eat?”

I laughed hearing that, and so did Cleve.

“Where did you get that puzzle?” My toot.

“From my father. He's a funny guy and always makes me and my older brother laugh Cleve.

“Hey, you can't beat up a guy like that!” Cried Cleve so that the new disciples stopped doing their despicable deeds.

It turned out that the one they were beating was Ian, the mute boy who was on the boat this afternoon.

“What did you guys do to him?” Cleve.

“You all right?” I held onto Ian's shoulder but he dodged.

“We asked him where the dining hall is but he was silent, it seems like he deliberately mocked us.” Said a blonde girl. “Basic useless slave.”

“Pull your word!” Cried Cleve boldly. “You think who you were before you were in this place?”

“Shut up! It doesn't matter who we were.” The blonde boy's protest won't lose. “Slave is still a slave. Boys are useless. Come friends!” After saying so the proud daughter went with her three friends.

“Child named Tiffany it really is very arrogant.” Cleve.

After that Ian immediately stood up and ran away leaving us both.

“Yeah, why doesn't he say thank you after we please?”

“Cleve, the boy can't talk.” My words are approaching Cleve.

“You mean he's mute?” Cleve seemed to be in disbelief with my words. “Boy is poor.”

Cleve and I ate together in the hall. Tiffany and her three friends watched us continue with menacing views. Cleve and I tried to look ordinary and didn't want to respond.

I enjoyed the food in front of me. Very tasty and really delicious. I'm glad I don't have to worry about starving to death, but I feel sad because I don't know the news of Jatnera, whether he's eaten or not at this time.

“Bee,” Call Gumi who just entered the hall and ran up to me behind her Nem walked following her. “Congratulations yes you can finally pass the exam.” Gumi smiled as she stroked my head roughly. “It's not free I teach you. Welcome to the new home. Haha..”.

“Gumi lower your voice!” I felt embarrassed by Gumi's behavior that always ignored the surrounding situation.

“Congratulations yes..” Nem said looking towards Cleve.

“Thank you.” Answer Cleve.
