DEAPECTRUMS

DEAPECTRUMS
018. BECOME A HITMAN

At eight I was in class. Cleve and the children who were already healthy had also come to class. Only the sprained girls are still in the clinic. His legs sprained so swollen that he still can not go out of the clinic.

“Alright, to begin with let us get acquainted with each other.” Wendy was in front of the class. “I will call your name and just mention all about yourself that you want to share with others.”

Wendy called one by one our names and every name she called was allowed to speak as they pleased. Some tell me about things they like, some tell me about their lives before being here, of course, their lives are so sad as my own life, and there are also those who boast about their abilities that they have learned.

“My name is Tiffany, I'm eleven years old. I can shoot and throw daggers on target. I don't understand why my father and mother arrived at Deapectrum but I'm happy to be here and no longer need to see them.” Tiffany said in a proud tone. “I hate them because of them I have to live in Deapectrum.”

“My name is Cleverlly but just call me Cleve and I'm eleven years old. I love my father so much though because of him I have to live in Deapectrum, I also love my older brother who left me alone but I pray that he is fine out there.” Cleve. “I can shoot but my shot is still messed up, I hope I can be like my mentor Nem, therefore I have a lot to learn.”

I really like what Cleve said. I want to say something like that but I'm not sure I can do it. Even now I have trembled even though my name has not been called. I just closed my eyes because I was really nervous about it. I can't talk in front of a crowd, I just want to go somewhere.

“Klay-Bee,” Finally Wendy mentioned my name. “Klay-Bee, who's Klay-Bee?” Wendy repeated it because I didn't get up.

Cleve who was sitting on the chair next to me whispered telling me to get up on my feet, with a thumping heartbeat I immediately got up.

“Na—my name Klay-Bee..” I stammered from nervousness.

“The name is strange.” Tiffany. “Where does that name come from?”

“A—what? Hmm, that name comes from the writing on the clothes my mother wore when she gave birth to me. The name is strange but you can call me Bee.”

“Bee means bee.” says Wendy, “How old are you, Bee? Say whatever you want to say, no need to be nervous.”

“My age is ten.” I try to be relaxed. “My life is the same as all of you, every day must fight without knowing when will get a better life. But someone once told me that he was going to change Deapectrum for the better, so he told me to survive. I have to survive in order to meet her again.”

“Is she your boyfriend?” A black boy. “I also have a girlfriend out there but she never said that to me.” Hearing the child's words the class became noisier.

“Oke introduction is enough to get here.” Wendy walked closer. “Now I will ask you some questions.” Wendy bit her lower lip and looked like she was thinking. “What do you guys know about Gyeld Enn Chourius? Say everything you know.”

“A college that teaches how to survive.” Answer Cleve.

“There are others?” Ask Wendy.

“The only place where we can survive.” This time Tiffany answered. “Here we no longer need to fear dying of hunger.”

“What among you has ever killed?” Ask Wendy again. “Yang already please raise your hand.”

I doubtfully held my hand. I'm the only one holding out a hand. It made all the children shocked as well as Cleve.

“Se–actually I didn't mean to kill him. I saw Gumi fighting with three giant men in the treasure hole and one man whose hand had been cut off Gumi tried to attack Gumi while he was off guard, then without a second thought I who was hiding took the gun I took from the herd of dead criminals and shot the man right in the head.” My words of shame because it seems like killing is not something to be proud of.

“Really?” Ask Wendy. “That's great. Let's applaud Bee.”

At once all the children clapped for me except Cleve who was looking at me. I feel weird about all this. Why did I kill get a clap? Is it because I saved Gumi?

“I will tell you one thing the advantage of living in this land of exile is that you will not be punished for crimes including murder.” Wendy walked over to me and held my shoulder. “That's great right, Bee?” Wendy looked at. “Regarding my first question your answer is not entirely wrong but rather this college is..” Wendy walked back to the front of the class. “This Gyeld Enn Chourius outing is a place where you can learn how to kill.”

Wendy's words made Cleve and I look at each other. I don't really understand the meaning of Wendy's words.

“After graduation you will run a task whose rewards are very large.”

“What kind of task?” Ask Cleve.

“Murders.” Wendy answered looking at Cleve who looked surprised.

All the children whispered to each other at Wendy's words.

“This is where you will be taught how to kill, of course to kill. But take it easy because you will get very much rewards.”

I shuddered to hear it. Isbell taught me not to do evil and now I'm gonna learn how to kill. My tears wanted to flow out but I held it back so my vision looked vague. I've been here and I can't get out because they'll definitely kill me like they killed girls who didn't run. What am I supposed to do now?

“Bee..” Cleve held my hand, she knew I was scared. “Do not think anything. We are here and we have to live it all. You understand right?”

I nodded.

“Every college year is looking for nine to twelve year olds to take the entrance exam. There are ten levels in this college and at the tenth level you will take the graduation exam. Only the best will graduate. But if you feel confident that you can take the graduation exam before level ten you can get a recommendation.” Brightly Wendy as she walked around the classroom. “But unfortunately only one person can graduate and now he is the youngest graduate of this college who graduated last year. Do you know who he is?”

“Can I ask?” I looked at Wendy, and Wendy nodded. “Why just girls?”

“Because women have a weakness.” Wendy sat down at one of the other children's desks. “But that weakness is also always used as a weapon. Cry when you're cornered, and smile when they suspect you.” Wendy smiled. “Good for now just get here. We will start learning tomorrow but remember to really study because we are only looking for the best students every year. And one thing remembers our motto. Find your luck by throwing away the fear of death.” Wendy's smile after that left the room.

“How now, Bee?” cleve asked me.

“Find your luck by throwing away the fear of death.” My answer. “I've decided to stick to the lessons because I have to live.”
