Simon's Bride

Simon's Bride
74. Fell hunt

Anna lowered her head in front of a gravestone bearing the name Nuella Barnes. He greeted Nuella, apologizing for only now being able to come see her and say prayers in his heart. Long she stood with a bunch of colorful flowers in her grasp.

After long closing her eyes and imagining Nuella's figure in the shadow, Anna finally let out a long breath. She smiled, then knelt down and placed a bouquet of flowers on Nuella's grave.

"You don't want to see me cry. I've been smiling on request in your letter, I'm happy, Nuella. I hope you are happy and calm there too. Don't worry about me. I'll be fine. I hope you don't forget me either, even if you're happy in nature. I love you, Nuella ...."

After caressing a glance at the top of her sister's tombstone, Anna was just about to get up when she heard footsteps approaching. He turned his head, saw a man with hair covered in some gray hair, the man's body was walking straight, because glare by the sun Anna had difficulty seeing his face.

Next to the man's hand stretched out, giving Anna help to get up.

Anna immediately stood up while patting the tip of her skirt that had been exposed to dust while kneeling.

"No, but thank you" said Anna, taking a few steps back. He was shocked when he could clearly see the old man's face.

"Hello, Emilia. Long time no see."

"Why are you here?"

"You? I'm still your father, Em. Even if it is just above the documents. Now that your husband is gone, Andreas' name is no longer on you. You're still a Barnes. Just like your sister." Mario Barnes pointed towards Nuella's name on the headstone.

"I am Andrew's widow, we are not divorced. Whatever my last name is, it's up to me."

Barnes smiled slightly. "I just want to talk, Em. Not asking you to argue. Can we go somewhere? To talk?"

Anna shakes. "No."

"It's a shame .. when I want to talk about the workshop and the ownership of the house, as well as all the relics of your mother."

Anna frowned.

"Your mother is dead. Liver cancer .. You're my only family now."

Anna did not believe the man's words.

"You can give it to anyone you want. I'm not interested."

"Come, Emilia. I know you're mad at us for taking money from Martin. But you know at the time we were in financial trouble. At least you remember it was us who pulled you out of the crowded White Clouds parlour."

Anna is back. "Sorry, Mr. Barnes. I gotta go home. I'm just here to see Nuella's grave. Now I want to go home."

"Where are you staying, Em?"

"You don't need to know."

"All your mother's legacy can support your life, Em."

Anna laughed miris. "I don't need it, sir. If I want treasure, Martin's legacy is tantalizing. Martin's mom is willing to give it to me if I want to go back. But no. I just want to manage my life. I have a job, I have a house, so, thank you. Sorry, I have to go now."

Anna turned around, strode quickly away from the burial ground, turned her head and found Mr. Barnes still standing in front of Nuella's tomb with both hands into the pockets of her trousers and eyes watching her departure.

Not far away, he looked to the right, a man seemed to be hiding quickly behind a tree, his hair pockmarked and wearing a denim jacket. Anna looked up, the sun was shining brightly and the man was wearing a jacket?

Anna is moving faster. He already felt an uneasy feeling when he left the inn. Like someone was following him. It felt like it was being hunted. However Anna ignored him and still went to the funeral and now the feeling of being hunted was getting stronger.

Anna glanced left and right after arriving at the roadside. He was relieved when a taxi seemed to pass him. Anna waved and pulled the taxi.

"Motel Barbara, sir." said Anna.

The driver nodded, then immediately took Anna away from the place.

Anna stabbed a slice of meat on her plate with a fork, then put it in her mouth. While chewing slowly, he looked around casually, as if he was enjoying the scenery around the restaurant. Just a few tables filled, all seems normal. But somehow the feeling of being watched did not want to disappear from his mind.

Anna's eyes turned to the entrance of the restaurant as a man pushed and restrained the door, waiting for a woman and a little girl to come inside. After that, the man took off the door and followed inside.

Anna's heart was warmed when the little family occupied the table not far from her. The little girl reminded him of Leonard. The father's attention to his daughter and wife made Anna think about the real family.

The father ensured the safety and comfort of his family, opened and held the door, then hugged the princess who was very active when he saw the mother had difficulty holding it. Laughing together, he catches a spoon grabbed by the princess's arm before falling down the table.

Family ...

Anna sighed in heart. Now, alone enjoying dinner makes Anna so feel the meaning of her togetherness with Leon and Simon.

Freedom? What does it mean if you feel your life is not safe. Now, for example, you feel watched, alert around you. Like when you lived with Martin.

Anna stirred up the remaining slices of meat on her plate without any appetite at all to eat. He ate a little and tonight he had no lust.

On the contrary, when separated from Martin, living your life in White Sand Bay .. have you ever been afraid? No ... Simon made sure you were always safe. Is it your trouble? No, Simon made sure all your problems were resolved. Have you ever been lonely? Not when I'm with Leon, or with Simon. Even you slept well in your little cottage, knowing that tomorrow, you'll meet them again.

Anna put down her fork and dinner knife. He stood up without spending dinner.

After arriving outside, Anna walked slowly to enjoy the night air towards the Motel where she stayed. He chose to walk when looking for a place to eat, a place that is still quite close to the inn. Even though it was night, some people were still seen walking on the sidewalk, stepping towards their respective destinations.

When she heard footsteps not far behind her, Anna turned her head. He saw Mr. Barnes.

"Emilia!" call the guy.

Anna clenched her teeth. "Go away. Our business is done!" anna exclaimed, and she ran immediately. His instinct told him to run away immediately. Because not far from Barnes, two big men, wearing black shirts appeared and began to move.

Anna ran with all her might, the street lights one after another were passed. Sometimes one looked at him in wonder as he passed them while running.

Right now, if you were here, if I had been patiently waiting for you to return after Mr. Hamilton has recovered, then to go here with you, this would definitely not have happened ... Simon's? Are you so angry? Why haven't you contacted me ... At least let me talk to Leonard.

Anna wiped the rough tears on her cheeks. Between fear, sadness, and longing that is not conveyed, makes him feel weak.

Those two men must be Barnes's man. I knew he couldn't see me because he still thought I was a son. He's gonna sell me again. He failed. Now, since Martin is gone and I'm alone, he's back to trying.

Anna's sobbing grew louder, her breathing was tight, she stopped under a street lamp, then turned her head and saw no one there.

Did they stop chasing?

Anna was slightly relieved, she set her hunting breath, narrowing as the lights of a bus panned towards her. He gulped as the bus passed him, then Anna turned around, intending to walk again. But his face hit someone's body.

Anna froze, the sound of the bus passing by made her not hear the footsteps of the people who approached her.

Anna closed her eyes. His face hit a man's chest. The size of the body and the black t-shirt the man wore told him it was Barnes.

Anna felt faint, her legs limp, her eyes twitching. When one man's hand held her upper arm Anna tried to threaten.

"Don't try! or you'll deal with my husband! He's a Bernard! He'll look for me if I'm missing!"

Anna tried to sound threatening. He looked up quickly with the look of his eyes made as bold as possible. He felt like he was about to faint, but tried to survive using all his strength.

Anna was shocked, frightened, weak because her stomach since noon contained only a small amount of food. Upon seeing the man who was hunting her, Anna gave up, she left, closed her eyes and fainted.
