Waiting almost two hours, passengers on a plane bound for Singapore were finally welcome to board the plane. Kirana breezed leisurely as her suitcase had been stuffed into the trunk. He just had his bag on his shoulder. Getting a seat by the window, he could see the scenery outside the plane.
Fauzi's face suddenly flashed across his head. They were so happy at dinner together last Wednesday. He was forced to do it because his best friend wanted to introduce him to his lover. A regretful event that he once did. Fauzi kept talking to her as her boyfriend tried to balance their conversation. Finally, the two of them were busy talking, Kirana just busy herself spending her food.
Fauzi forced a meeting even though he had explained his work piled up and had to be overtime. Of course it was just a mere reason so that he would not have to feel the heartbreak again. In fact, she was not ready to meet and see Fauzi with her lover. He should be happy with the happiness of his best friend, he knows it. But he could not pretend not to be hurt by his own stupidity. He hoped that they would be more than friends just because they were so close. Really stupid.
That mistake will not be made again. It never will. There is no hope of a romantic relationship with anyone. Not with his co-workers who are single or with his best friend who delays getting married. Eventually it will be the same. He's the one who's hurt and hoping for something unreal.
But he doesn't have to shut himself down completely. He has one more way to be happy and not alone. Therefore, this holiday trip will turn into a mission trip. Find a man who would sleep with her, hoping it would help her get pregnant and have children. If it doesn't work, he'll go somewhere else and try again. Thirty-five years is a young age to get pregnant. He still has plenty of opportunities to try again.
If his mother knew, she would be disappointed. She always taught her to maintain her chastity until marriage because it was her gift to her husband. His duty is to look after him. But her mother is gone. She had nothing to fear that would disappoint her mother. Then why was there such an uncomfortable feeling in his heart every time he thought of his plan?
Tears welled up in her eyes remembering both her parents. Even though they were gone more than a month ago, she still cried when she remembered them. Their deaths were so sudden. He didn't even have the premonition of losing them that day. If only they could say goodbye before they leave for good.
The man sitting next to her did not try to get her to talk during the flight. Kirana is very grateful for that. His mood was not good enough to talk to new people. When he heard the pilot's voice saying they were about to land, he looked towards the window.
Singapore Changi Airport looks so majestic and beautiful from the window beside it. His eyes were round and dazzled by the view of the city and the sea around him, a very contrasting sight. Nature meets modern life. It is in this city that he will have a new life. A start to a better life. That's his biggest hope.
After the queue diminished, he stood up and walked leisurely towards the exit. Two flight attendants smiled at him, saying thank you and expecting a pleasant day. Kirana replied to them with the same hope. He inhaled the outside air deeply before descending using the stairs.
Pulling his suitcase, he approached an empty taxi. After mentioning the name of his destination hotel, he sat leaning back and enjoyed the surrounding scenery. The first thing that attracted his eyes was his cleanliness. The city was so clean and tidy because he did not see any paper, tissue, plastic bags on the street or sidewalks. Although there were so many tall buildings, he could see many trees and plants around him.
Within twenty minutes, he arrived at the hotel. He immediately headed to the reception and called out their names and showed them an email as proof that he had booked a room. After paying some bail, he was escorted to his room. The hotel clerk opened the door with a card in his hand, placed it in a plastic box near the door until the room light came on, then left.
Inside the room is a single-bed, flat-screen television, a closet for storing clothes complete with a few plastic hangers, and a bath towel. In the bathroom he saw a sitting toilet, a bathtub with shower water, and several bottles with the lodging label. Liquid soap, shampoo, hair moisturizer, also there is new toothpaste and toothbrush. Under the sink were several rolls of clean large and small towels.
From the window of his room, he could see the view of the city of Singapore with its skyscrapers. Luckily, he got a room whose window led to Marina Bay. The sea with the blue water combined with the clear blue sky perfectly with the greenness seen from between the buildings in front of him. His eyes then looked in awe at the tall building of three twin buildings at the top of which there is a luxurious yacht-like building that unites the three buildings. Honey, he didn't have enough money to pay for a room in that luxury hotel.
Kirana repeats the rules that can and cannot be done in the country in her head. Some provisions will not be difficult to comply with. He does not smoke, litter, spit, chew gum, or even naked at home especially in public. So it can be avoided. He also reminded himself to take a good look at the rules he encountered on the road so that he would avoid trouble.
Remember with his promise to Dexter, he immediately activated his phone and connected it to the internet network provided by the hotel. He chose one of the apps on his phone and contacted the man. They can't talk much because Dexter and Vivian plan to have dinner together at their favorite restaurant. He smiled as he ended the phone call, being happy with his best friend and wife.
There is one thing he is very keen to try. Ride the MRT Singapore. He deliberately chose one of the hotels close to the MRT station. He walked happily to the station, bought a special card to travel one day, then waited in the queue. When the transport came, his heart was pounding fast. He finally did it too. Looking at the empty seat, he sat down and enjoyed the ride.
