Kirana took a deep breath. He stood up and walked out of his room. His assistant and all of his staff stood up to see him out of his room. Kirana smiled at them. Their faces looked worried. He could not say anything to make them calmer. Because he is not calm right now.
“Please enter, Miss Kirana. Mr. Herbert is waiting.” said the assistant director who greeted him kindly.
“Thank you, Aprilia.” Kirana walked towards the door.
“Mother Kirana, Sir.” says Aprilia while opening the door.
“Thank you, Aprilia. Please close the door again.” said the man. He then pointed towards the chair opposite him. “Please sit, Kirana.” He braced himself and sat down.
The man pressed his intercom button and invited someone to enter. Not long after, the door opened. A security guard walked in while carrying a pile of money in both hands. The money was put on the table. The man came out without saying a word. The director looked at Kirana's face intently.
“Why, Kirana? Why should you steal? Do you need money so much that you take a shortcut? Can't you come to me if you need money?” herbert said as he looked at the woman with a look of disbelief.
Kirana put her phone in front of the director. The man looked at her in surprise and then looked at the screen. Not long after, his eyes were round. He looked towards the woman in front of him then looked back towards the screen.
“That's my savings amount, sir. I can show you the money in the deposit that I just opened two weeks ago. It was legacy money and insurance of my late parents.” Kirana said as she took her phone back and locked the screen. “I don't need your money. I have more than enough to meet the needs of my life until old age later.”
“This money was found in your work desk drawer. That's more than enough to prove that you stole, Kirana. No matter how much you save, you can't go around anymore. Since when is money ever enough for a thief?” accuse Herbert sharply. Kirana closed her mouth tightly.
His chest ached hearing the accusation, even more so when he heard the label given to him. Thieves. He had never thanked her before for the deaths of his parents. Now he is so grateful that they do not have to feel the pain of seeing his daughter accused of stealing and even labeled a thief. Even without waiting for an explanation or defense.
“Are you not wrong, Sir? I was on vacation and suddenly the money was found in my desk drawer?” kirana said in wonder. “Do you seriously think that I would be that careless? Leaving a desk drawer unlocked with that much money during my vacation?”
“Proofs that speaks, Kirana. You can't squirm. The evidence was found in your desk drawer.” said the man who remained in his stance.
“Is my fingerprint on one of those piles of money? Has this money been taken to the police station for inspection? Or no one thought like that before accusing me?” kirana is serious.
He brought his body to the table. “My desk drawer was never locked, sir. My son left it at home. Only the man who wanted his crime to be easily uncovered kept that kind of money in an unlocked drawer. What's more, go on vacation without worrying about someone opening that drawer and finding the stolen money.”
“Caraka has bought two luxury cars within two years of working here for a smaller salary than me. Have you never felt suspicious? See me. Do I look like someone who saves a lot of money? I am not an accountant or I work in finance. Where do I get access to take that much money?” tanyanya frustration.
“The money I once held was just project money. The number never reached hundreds of millions in one claim.” he added again. “And in this case, I have made a complete financial statement with the receipt of each transaction. The report always passes verification from the financial section. I never took money from this company. Not a dime that is not my right, I take from kas.”
“No thief has confessed his actions, Kirana, including you. I want your resignation letter already on my desk tomorrow morning.” Herbert said firmly. Kirana frowned.
“Sorry, Sir. I am innocent, then I will not resign.” Kirana said objection.
“What? You want a severance? Is that what you want? So we can fire you?” tantang upset.
“If I resign, it means that I justify the accusations that were handed to me.” Kirana pushed away her tears before falling. He won't cry now. “Once again, I didn't steal the company's money. Please sue me. I'd rather defend myself in court than plead guilty to a thing I didn't do.”
“Tomorrow you don't need to go back to work.” He knocked on the table with his pen. Kirana's heart beat so fast it hurt her chest.
“Does that mean I won't be given a letter of recommendation? I went without an appreciation during my time serving for this company?” ask her with a hoarse voice.
“You stole, Kirana. There is nothing to appreciate about the crime.” That speech made Kirana feel slapped from all directions.
Of all his explanations and defences, the man had not thought at all about the possibility that he was being framed? Where did the good-natured man go who offered to take a longer leave? But he did not want to show an expression stating that he was injured in front of his boss. He would not let anyone feel like winning.
“Thank you for trusting me, sir. Twelve years I worked well here. But my devotion was not considered a possibility that I was innocent. Too bad, you have more confidence in employees who have only worked for two years here.” Kirana stand. “I suggest you start considering installing surveillance cameras in some important locations in your company. You certainly do not want to lose money again ‘kan?”
“You threatened me?” Herbert narrowed his eyes. I don't know what Caraka has said so his superior's view of him changes by one hundred and eighty degrees. The man stared dislikefully at her, almost even disgusted. He must have been so furious at almost losing so much money. But does his common sense stop working just out of anger?
“Just give advice. The real thief is still in this company. Trust.”
