Ready to move on, that weekend Miles tidied up his wife's personal belongings. His servants at home helped him. Miles lets them take whatever they like. Shoes, bags, accessories, clothes, or books. The rest he will donate. All the jewelry belonged to his wife he sold, including his engagement ring and wedding ring. His wife's personal account is closed. His car is also sold. There was not a single item he kept.
All the cooking and eating utensils and furniture that he had bought since his wife lived with him, he sold. He replaced everything with a new one. The entire room was repainted, the entire ceramics were dismantled and replaced with new ones, including the walls and floor of the bathroom where his wife died. Plants and flowers in the garden are removed and replaced with new ones.
That day was exactly one year after the death of his late wife. He visited his grave during his lunch break. His wife's favorite bouquet of flowers he placed on his grave. There was nothing else he felt for the woman he had been with for those twenty years. No anger, no hate, no more love. There are too many lies in their marriage. The marriage no longer feels real. I don't know what made him defend it.
“I forgive what you did, Angelica. Everything was. Too bad you'd rather have a shortcut than involve me facing your problem. That's my deepest regret.” said Miles slowly. There were still many questions in his head, but the answers were carried by his wife into the afterlife.
Leaving that place, Miles promised inwardly. He'll never come back. There is nothing to remember or remember about Angelica in her life. A day in a year is not worth giving to him. Without him, he is happy to even enjoy his free life. No more pressure, no more selfish demands from a wife. He's happy now.
On that Monday the sun shone very brightly, as bright as Miles' face. The maid and the driver were happy to see her facial expression. Even at work, everyone is back to normal. No one else looked at him with a concerned face. His assistant again complained because his superior did not let him rest for a moment with the command after command he said. Miles just laughed.
“Pak, Ibu Tisha wants to see you.” Kemala said via intercom.
“Please him in.” Miles said. As soon as the door of her room opened, a smiling, friendly young woman approached her desk. “Please sit, Tisha.”
“No need, Sir. Thank ye. I just briefly.” He put the envelope he was carrying on Miles' desk. The man frowned.
“Do not say you want to resign.” Miles narrowed his eyes. The woman showed her an engagement ring embedded in her ring finger.
“I'll get married next month, sir. I can't work here anymore because I'm going to join my fiancee who works in another city. And I know it.” He reminded his boss.
Yes, of course he knows. But he pretended not to care. This woman is the biggest loss her company has ever experienced. He still could not believe that all his attempts to change the woman's mind were not successful at all. Even though the salary and facilities obtained by her prospective husband from the company where he worked, much lower than him.
On the other hand, he could understand the reason the woman had remained on her stance. He's in love. It is not something that is experienced every day with everyone. It could have been the only experience of her life, so it was only natural that she would not let go of her chance to marry a good man. He was in that position, fell in love with a woman to be willing to do anything for her happiness.
“Why do you all always prefer love over work?” miles the sarcas. The woman laughed amusedly. “Can't you keep working here for me?”
“Can't, Sir.” Tisha shook her head. “For the longest I will wait one month ahead until you get my replacement.”
“You are my most loyal and accomplished employee. It won't be easy to find your replacement.” complained Miles. The woman smiled.
“Father knows I won't change my mind whatever you say ‘kan?” seduce the woman.
“I'm sorry, Sir. There is still work I have to finish.” He turned around and walked towards the door.
“If my company goes bankrupt, it's all your fault. I will definitely sue you.” threatened him.
“Please, Sir.” The woman gave a small laugh and walked out of Miles' room.
He sighed softly and then pressed the intercom button. “Then, call the head of HR to my office now.”
“Good, Sir.” Reply Kemala.
Miles walked fretfully in his office. Five minutes later someone knocked on the door and a young man entered the room. He carried some maps in his hands. Miles looked at the map in annoyance and invited him to sit down. The man smiled at the expression of his superior.
“You all are upsetting. After working so many years with me, you left me for your girlfriend.” Miles said. He sat back in his chair, while the man sat in front of him.
“Tisha notified her of her resignation weeks ago, sir. It was not a sudden decision. You shouldn't be angry about this. You are not angry when you hear it the first time.” he said in wonder.
“Iya. But tell me, who wants to refuse his salary increased three times, given the facilities of cars and holidays twice a year which are all borne by the company, rose the position once the position above him lowong?” Miles waited for the man to answer. But he answered it himself. “Nothing! Only you who dare to reject it.”
“If you are so worried that you will have trouble finding a replacement, I have brought several candidates from Tisha's subordinates and branch office, sir. They are very competent and show satisfactory work performance.” The man gave the pile of maps he brought to him. Miles shook his head, rejecting the map.
“I don't want to know. You guys take care of everything. My work piles up and I hate having to do interviews again. Tell me as soon as you get the date of the interview. Have Kemala put it on my schedule. If she has to cancel one of her appointments, she knows what she has to do.”
“Good, Sir. Anything else?” tanyanya politely.
“No. You can return to your room.” Miles invited him to leave.
“Good, Sir.” The man stood up and walked towards the door.
“Nathan,” call Miles. The man stopped and looked at him. “If you want to get married, make sure your wife comes with you. It's not you who's with him.”
The man just laughed out loud.
