Tired for three days of just crying and denying reality, she soon fell asleep as soon as she laid her body on the bed. Sleeping without dreams relaxes her body. He woke up because his stomach protested to be filled. The wall clock in his room showed at two in the morning. Lazily, he stretched his body and complained softly. Then he came out of the room with shaky steps.
He groaned softly looking at the contents inside his refrigerator. Allegedly right. There was so much food that he would not be able to spend on his own for days. All food is stored in a supply box and each is labeled an expiration date. Considering the many options, he took yellow rice complete with meat and a box of pumpkin vegetables. Then he opened the lid and put the two boxes in the microwave.
Once it was warm enough, he took the food to the living room. While watching a movie playing on one of the television stations, he enjoyed his meal. Although his appetite has not returned, he forced himself to finish the food in the box. Not yet finished watching the second movie, he was bored.
He turned off the television and walked into the kitchen. There, she washes the food boxes, spoons, and glasses she uses to eat. He checked the flask, there was still hot water in it. She unsealed three small packs of chocolate powder, put them in a mug, then poured hot water from a thermos. He stirred the hot drink.
Because he was bored, he returned to the room with a mug containing warm chocolate. While taking his phone off the table, he sighed softly. There were five missed calls from Ratri. Dozens of messages from relatives and friends containing condolences. She sent a message to her brother saying that she was asleep so as not to answer the phone from him. The other message he ignored.
As soon as she woke up in the morning, Kirana rushed to take a bath. After drying her body with a towel, she put on her work clothes, tidied her hair and put her makeup on, she exited the room towards the dining room combined with the kitchen. The house is dark because there are no lights. The curtains still close the windows, blocking the entry of sunlight. He opened all the curtains wide. His father sometimes forgets when he's so hungry. The house becomes bright because the sunlight enters freely. She smiles. Today will be bright.
“Good morning, Papa, Mama.” Kirana said as she walked into the dining room.
Silent. There was no one in the room. The chair where his father used to sit while enjoying his coffee was empty. The place in front of the stove where his mother used to stand while cooking breakfast for them was also empty. Then yesterday's events played back in his head. Both of his parents were dead and buried. Tears welled up in her eyes. He took a deep breath and let it out, he should not cry. It will take time to dress up again.
From inside the refrigerator, he picked up a food box filled with chicken porridge. While waiting for the porridge to be warmed, he made a cup of warm chocolate. For the first time, he ate breakfast alone. There is no Mom and Dad. There was also no Ratri, Brian, and his two nephews who could not keep quiet. Moreover, his loyal office friends accompanied him since the bodies of his parents were taken from the hospital to the house to the funeral.
Right now he only has a job and his friends. He is not alone without his parents and brother. Because there are colleagues who are fun to work with and there are close friends who like to share time together. With them, he will be busy for the next few days.
Getting off the city bus, Kirana slightly ran up to the building where she worked. Daydreaming, he passes his office stop and has to move the bus to return to the missed stop. Suddenly the sound of a car horn stopped his steps. A new Mercedes Benz car in red flashed in front of him. The window of the driver's section is opened.
“Hai, Kirana! I saw you just got off the bus. Is it comfortable crimping in it? Why don't you buy a car like me?” goda Caraka, financial officer. One of the people who likes to bother him every time they meet.
“With my salary for one month, I couldn't possibly afford a car this expensive. Thanks for your advice, Caraka. But I would rather be cramped and breathless in a full bus than show off the riches that come out of nowhere.” Kirana said. The smile disappeared from the man's face.
“Do you accuse me of stealing?” tanyanya. Kirana smiled innocently.
“Do you feel accused?” He asked back. When Caraka's face turned red, she knew she had said the right thing.
“We can see who is the real thief among us.” threatened Caraka.
“I will make sure, the person is not me.” Kirana said confidently.
That morning he attended a managerial meeting in the meeting room on the top floor of his office. One by one the head of the department reported on the development of each department he led. Not encountering any difficulties with her own report, Kirana was glad that there were many questions addressed to her. The finance department received the highest praise because of the savings and tight supervision they put on the use of money in each project. The two-hour meeting went well.
“Kirana,” call Herbert, his boss. Kirana stood up from her seat after tidying up the books and stationery she was carrying.
“Iya, Sir.” replied as he approached his superior.
“Regarding your cut request, I have granted it.” said the middle-aged man. Kirana's smile grew even more and more to hear it.
“Thank you very much, Sir.” said Kirana pleased.
“No, sir. Thank ye. Two days is enough. Coupled with the weekend, I get four days of rest.” said Kirana satisfied. He is a good man but Kirana will not take advantage of such kindness.
“Alright if you insist.” Boss relented.
Herbert walked out of the meeting room into his room. At the same time, Kirana approached the elevator. The room is one floor below. As she returns, Ruby, her assistant, follows her towards her room. Kirana frowned looking at her happy facial expression.
“What's up, Ruby? Are there any veins on your face that are misplaced?” ask Kirana wonder. Ruby closed the door and approached.
“I just received an SMS from the bank. Gajiku. Thank you, Kirana. I will work even better.” said Ruby with a cheerful smile.
“It wasn't me who raised your salary. You should be thanking the director.” Kirana laughs amusedly. Ruby frowned.
“But if not you who filed, where ever they consider to raise the salary.” He insisted.
“There again? I have to check all these reports before lunch.” Kirana pointed towards the pile of papers on her desk.
“No. That's it.” Ruby smiled.
“Good. You can go back to your desk.” Kirana sat down in her chair and started working.
“One more time thank you, Kirana.” said Ruby. Kirana rolled her eyeballs.
“Kirana! Miss Kirana!” There was a shriek of people who then entered his room when Ruby had just opened the door.
“What else is it?” kirana complains while putting down her pen. Almost all of his subordinates stood before him. They smile happily.
“Our salary is up.” report one of them.
“Iya. The amount is more than last year.” other timpal.
“Thank you, Mom. Thank you, Kirana.” add another.
“OK, okay. Listen to me.” Kirana said in a loud voice. Suddenly the room became quiet. “I didn't raise your pay. Please thank the director.”
“But, if it wasn't you who proposed,” muttered one of them.
“For sure you asked the director.” another timpal. Kirana sighed softly. He deliberately did it secretly because he did not want them to thank him. These pay increases are an accomplishment of their own.
“Do you guys have no other job but to gather here?” kirana said as she raised both of her eyebrows high up as they just stood in place in a daze.
Ignoring his words, they approached him. Then one by one shake his hand and say thank you. Kirana just shook her head while smiling. After everyone came out, Ruby smiled meaningfully. Although she was happy with their happiness, Kirana hid it by rolling her eyeballs.
