After promising that he would come to the police station to testify the next morning, Miles carried William to his truck. He helped her to sit in the back seat. The boy was still crying, terrified by what had just happened to him. Miles' chest ached when he saw tears streaming down his son's cheeks. Miles examined William's face, hands, knees, and legs in search of cuts or abrasions. Niente.
“It's okay. Everything's fine. I'm here, Son.” Miles calmed his son. William did not loosen his embrace.
“I want Mommy!” her crying.
“We'll be home to meet Mommy, okay.” Miles stroked her hair.
Police forced the man with his hands cuffed into the back seat of the police car. One of the policemen looked at him and smiled. Miles returned his smile. He needs to call Charles and let him handle everything. All he needs is to stay with his family. They don't know yet who sent these men to kidnap William, so he has to look after them.
“William, listen to me. Are you listening?” Miles framed the boy's face. William nodded. “Try to stop crying, Son. I need to know if you feel any pain or any injury. Do you feel any discomfort in your body?”
“No.” William shook his head. “I'm fine. I want Mommy.”
“Oke.” Miles wiped his tears. “Now a neat sitting. I need to put your seat belt on.” William sobbed, but he complied.
The child is trying better to stop crying. Miles drove his truck as fast as he could. He doesn't forget to thank his best friend, Luke. He found his son safely. Seeing the situation in front of the empty house, Miles let out a sigh of relief. That means Kirana obeyed him and locked the door of the house.
Miles stopped his truck in front of the house, pulled the key from the point of contact, and jumped out. He opened the door for William and helped him out. After locking the door of the truck, she carried her son to the front door. The curtain slightly opened, then Kirana's face appeared there. He disappeared as soon as the door lock was opened. The door is open.
“Will!” shout Kirana. He knelt down and hugged their son. “My boy. Are you all right? Did they hurt you?” William could not answer his question because he was crying again.
“She's okay. No cuts or abrasions.” Miles replied. “Come, we're in. We shouldn't be outside.”
Kirana held William and entered the house. Miles locked the door and checked the road in front of the house through a window. Nothing looks suspicious. He closed the curtain and turned his body. Kirana and William sat side by side on the sofa hugging each other.
He left them alone and climbed the stairs. He opened the first door. It was a bedroom with many belongings of women. He picked up and placed the largest suitcase on the bed. From every closet and drawer, she took out the clothes, underwear, socks, scarves she could reach and put them in the suitcase. She put every cosmetic in a makeup bag.
Finished with the first room, he entered the second room. From the decor, he knew it was William's room. He picked up the biggest suitcase and did the same. He packed William's clothes and toys carefully. He checked the bathroom and found it behind the third door. He put every soap, shampoo, toothbrush, and everything new into the available pouch.
“What are you doing?” asked Kirana from the doorway. Miles walked past him to William's room and stuffed the bag into the suitcase. “Miles, I asked you.”
“Isn't this obvious?” Miles asked back. Kirana frowned. “You and William will stay with me from now on.”
“We can go to court tomorrow morning and register our marriage. I don't care how. But I won't leave you and MY son alone in this house after that scary incident.” Miles insisted. “Police don't know who did it yet. You and Will are not safe.”
“What? Whatchu mean? You've got it back but the police haven't caught the culprit?” kirana asked with a trembling voice. Miles looked around Kirana. “What?”
“Where William?” ask Miles to worry.
“In my room.” Kirana pointed towards the first door she checked. Miles was relieved. “Miles, about moving to your house,” He put his hand on Miles' chest to stop the man from moving away.
“Do you know what was on my mind when I chased them and didn't know how to get close to the car? Do you know what my biggest fear was when I thought maybe they hurt William, or at worst, killed him?” ask Miles. “You, Kirana. I'm afraid if I lose Will, I'll lose you too. I can't lose you again. That's my biggest fear.”
“Daddy!” william cheered as he jumped down from the bed and hugged her. Miles picked her up and carried her to the bed. They had only met today but his son was already comfortable near his papa. Miles smiled with satisfaction. He almost lost it. He kissed his son's cheek fondly.
“Hai, are you okay?” ask Miles. William nodded slowly and placed his cheek on his papa's chest. Miles kissed his head again and rubbed his back. “You'll be fine. Your mama's gonna be fine. We need to move to a safer place, okay?”
“Okay, Dad.”
Reluctantly, Kirana stuffed the extra clothes she would need into the suitcase. He picked out two shoes and put them in his box. Then he picked out some of William's clothes and stuffed them with other items that Miles had stashed away in William's suitcase.
Miles pulled the two suitcases with him and stuffed them into the back of the truck. When Kirana locked the front door, Miles helped William in the back seat. Miles drove his car after he put a seatbelt in front of his own body. He checked both rearview mirrors outside the car. No one followed them, then he glanced towards Kirana and William. They are safe as long as they are around.
“I'm glad you've calmed down, Will.” He looked at his son through a small mirror in the front of his car. William smiled but did not look at his father.
“I'm a strong man, Dad. I don't cry often.” William said firmly. Miles and Kirana exchanged looks. Miles blinked his eyes and Kirana could not help but laugh.
“That's my son.” he said proudly. He grabbed Kirana's hand and squeezed it.
“I forgot to tell you, thank you for helping us, Miles.” Kirana said sincerely. From his face he looked calm and did not panic anymore.
“It's my duty, Kirana. You are my family. I always protect what is mine.” He brought Kirana's hand closer to his face and kissed her clenched fingers. And he always kept his promise.
