In the car on the way home, he didn't stop to think about what was happening to his current Juliett. He doesn't even have his picture to hint at. He should have thought long when the woman applied for the condition of using a pseudonym and a ban on talking about personal matters. Now he cannot replay time or hope to experience events that have gone before.
“Stop at the supermarket in front, Mark.” Miles said considering there's something he needs to buy.
Markus turned the car into a supermarket parking lot designated by his employer. Miles asked her to wait while eating or drinking something at the restaurant. He'll catch up and pay the receipt. Driver according.
Inside the supermarket, Miles headed straight for the shower shelf. He immediately recognized the brand and smell of the liquid soap he was looking for. He opened the bottle and inhaled the scent of soap. His eyes instantly heated up as tears soaked his eyes. Just by smelling her scent alone, she felt as if the woman was nearby.
On the next shelf, Miles saw a line of women's perfumes. The thing he was looking for was not there. He approached the woman on guard and mentioned the characteristics of the product he was looking for. The woman pointed towards a special wardrobe of imported perfumes. Miles smiled as he shook his head slowly. Sure oes. She was not wearing ordinary perfume.
The male employee on guard gave her the perfume bottle she pointed at. Miles opened the lid and sprayed the contents on the inner wrist of his hand. The same sensation is felt again. Juliett seemed to be there with him.
The queue at the cashier is not too long. But with two people in front of him, Miles waited nearly ten minutes for his turn to arrive. After paying, he headed to the restaurant. He takes Markus back to the car after paying for the drinks he ordered.
Twenty minutes later, they arrived at his house. Seeing some lights upstairs and the porch lit up, he sighed softly. Miles invites his driver to rest. His job that day is over. And so is his own duty.
“Finally you go home too.” A voice greeted him as he opened the front door of his house. Miles saw one of his wife's older brothers standing not far from him.
“You've come.” Miles looked around him but the man only came alone.
“Angelica died Wednesday last week and your lawyer's wife just told us last night? Have you gone crazy? We should have been notified as soon as possible.” protest the man.
“And listen to all the accusations without proof from you? It won't. With the exit of the investigation results from the authorities, now you can not accuse me arbitrarily.” Miles said while raising his eyebrows.
“Miles, Miles. All that evidence can't deny my sister's depression because of your actions.” One corner of the man's lips was pulled upwards. Miles looked at him calmly.
“No evidence of violence found on his body, Yanto. Be careful when talking without proof. I can sue you for defamation. Over the past ten years, I have had plenty of evidence of who actually committed violence in our household.” Miles grabbed into the inner pocket of his suit. “Before you accuse me of not being able to get my wife pregnant, please read the results of this lab test. If you don't understand, please show it to Andhika.”
He took a shower, put on one of his loose shorts, then washed his hands using the liquid soap he had just bought. Satisfied with Juliett's distinctive scent in his hand, he extinguished the bathroom light. He sprayed the perfume he just bought onto his bed. That night, he slept soundly without any more nightmares.
Angelica's funeral went well. His employees, his friends from home and abroad, as well as Angelica's friends, and his wife's co-workers came to express their grief and drove Angelica to her final resting place. His wife's mother has been crying hysterically since her daughter's coffin was closed. As Miles dropped the first dirt on his wife's coffin underground, his mother-in-law's shriek grew.
The place turns silent when only Miles and his wife's family are in the place. Her mother-in-law was sobbing but her tears had stopped flowing. Her father-in-law tried to calm her down by whispering something to her. His four elder sisters stared at him sharply. Miles looked down at his wife's grave.
“I've read the lab results you gave to Yanto.” said Andhika, sister of Angelica, who is a doctor. “You're not barren, then what? Still our sister was heavily depressed her whole life with you.”
“I didn't see your parents coming. What was? Are you ashamed that they saw the results of your actions to your wife?” yanto Ejek. Miles was silent.
“You killer!” peekik her mother-in-law. Her husband tried to calm her down. “If he hadn't married you, he would still be alive. Angie's a good boy. She's changed since she married you. Restore her! Give me back my daughter!”
“You must take responsibility for your actions. You must have paid all the police and the hospital until they concluded that you are innocent.” said Rizal, his other wife's brother. Miles opened his glasses and looked at them in turn.
“I never stopped persuading him to seek help together. Together. Not just for him. You as his family, who knew he was severely depressed, never once tried to persuade him to seek help. What are you guys doing? Attacking me, as if it could heal him and make our marriage better.” Miles said sharply. “You see for yourself how it doesn't work.”
He pointed his index finger at Andhika trying to talk. “You, Andhika. I understand that your family doesn't understand mental health. But you, you're a doctor. You know your sister is really depressed. Are you suggesting he check himself out? No. gabe. What the hell are you doing? Justify all his words and accuse me without ever giving me a chance to talk.”
“If I've been quiet all this time, it's because I don't want to add to the burden of my wife's mind. But I won't shut up again. You confess your family and love to my wife. But your actions so far have been nothing more than a family that justifies the evil deeds of its family members.” Miles turned his head towards Rizal who was trying to refute him. “So, Rizal, don't talk about who's wrong and who's right. Your actions speak louder than you say. If you want to sue me, please. The result will not be much different. Believe this. I'm innocent.”
“I'll prove that you hurt Angie so deeply.” Rizal said with a sharp look. “If I manage to dismantle your crime, I will not involve the police to make calculations with you.”
Miles put his sunglasses back on and did not respond to his brother-in-law's threats. He walked away from his wife's grave to his car. Mark opened the car door for her. While thanking him, Miles went inside. It's all over. There is no longer any responsibility for his late wife or his family.
