"Mother, stop. I'm not sick. I'm normal, I just like girls. How can you talk to me like that?"
"You're not normal. I've known that since we first adopted you. You are a disgrace to my name. I shouldn't have adopted you. You're a lowly person who doesn't deserve a life like the one we gave you. You ungrateful brat!!!". He spat violently which made me take a step back unconsciously.
"You've crossed the line here" Pandu said. Pandu yelled at him but he paid him no heed. Devan who was standing next to Luna grabbed Shinta's hand and she immediately brushed aside violently.
"Tante, please stop. Aunt was too rude to him. What aunt said was very offensive. I'd be happy if aunt didn't say anything more. "Said Devan, struggling to keep a polite tone in his voice.
"You! Aren't you dating Luna? Did you give him the disease?"
"No, I'm not dating Luna. It's just to make sure that you don't marry her to someone who goes against her wishes. And if anyone has an illness among us, it's definitely you." Devan retorted and Shinta's face turned crimson with anger.
"What's wrong with you guys?" He roared, staring at everyone around him.
I accidentally whispered "sucks" a little loudly.
Actually just meant to say those words, but seemed to forget the part where no sound should come out when saying it.
His head turned towards me and honestly it scared me. He slowly walked until he was right in front of me.
"Well, if not that bad boy who likes to run away. I almost forgot you were friends with Luna. You and Bella!. You two have done something to Luna that led to her being accused like this".
"Don't talk about my daughter like that" Ny Daralyn yelled at him.
"Honestly Daralyn, how could you let your daughter be like this? He doesn't respect older people! And you're defending a girl like her? These three girls are a bunch of useless trash."
"They are my sisters you're talking about! Treat them well or get out of here!" yell Gio at Shinta.
I looked at Luna for help. He looked at me and gave a small nod indicating that I should get into his character right now. If I act like the Darla I used to, I will stutter all the time and apologize to her, maybe I too fall down and beg for forgiveness, but no, I have to be Daria here. And Daria is not subject to anyone, no matter who it is. That's the one thing Daria taught me even when she wasn't here.
"I believe that respect should be given to those who deserve it. Age is not a problem. If you give respect, you will be respected. Just because you're older than me, doesn't mean I'm obligated to treat you with respect."
For a moment I thought he was going to hit me but then he stopped him, probably because my mother was here and if he did that, Daralyn would probably chop off his head. I wonder how a person as good as my parents could be friends with someone like him. What was even more surprising to me was why Pandu married her.
He went back to Luna. "Look, you've infected everyone here, you little pest."
And then he hit her right in the face. We were all shocked by what just happened. The sound that echoed in the hall told us how powerful the slap was. Bella quickly reacts while pulling Luna off the floor with Devan helping her.
"Tante, what the hell is this?!" Bella screeched, holding onto Luna who was silent in her place.
Even before we were aware of what had just happened, we heard another loud slap and saw Shinta holding her cheek with Pandu looking at her angrily
"Get out of here" he said to her
"Darling, how could you do this to me?"
"Just like how you easily do that to my daughter."
"Guide, I'm your wife!"
"And she is our daughter, Shinta!, have you forgotten that? You've long crossed a line that you shouldn't have done and I can't tolerate your behavior anymore."
"I only think about his well-being. He's sick, Pandu, we need to get him to a doctor"
"Stop saying that. It was a part of him. It's not a disease. We have to accept what it is. I really didn't expect this from you. You really let me down. You weren't like this when we were young! How can you turn into a selfish, money-hungry woman? I-I'm not sure I love you anymore".
"What did you say? Youlove me. Are you saying all these things because of this kid?" He asked, gesturing to Luna.
"No, it's because you're not the same person that made me fall in love. You've turned worse, I've endured this for too long. Luna has endured it all for too long. You never treated her like your daughter, never gave a mother love. You never even liked her. You always find fault in him, criticize him and make him feel not good enough no matter how hard he tries. I always try to let it go because I think you're still uncomfortable with adopting a child and hoping I'll change soon, but you never do. I'm sick of this. I'm sick of you. I don't like you treating him like shit, you don't have the right to treat him like that. And now that today you've done something unforgivable, I want to stop everyone's suffering." He paused for a moment to catch his breath and the tension increased. I want a divorce."
Shinta gasps. "Darling, no! Don't do this to me. Ii'm sorry. You can't do that. I love you and I'm still the same person."
Shinta panic. "You can't do that. I'm sorry, I'll make it up to you."
Pandu shook his head. "It's too late for that. Now leave. You don't deserve to be in front of Luna anymore. My lawyer will call you tomorrow for the divorce proceedings!" .
He was still motionless, but one gaze from Pandu made him walk staggeringly towards the door. On his way, he glared at Luna for the umpteenth time of the day.
"You took everything from me. My money, my pride and now my husband?!. What else do you want from me?!"
Luna shook her head, her face flushed red from her continuous crying. "I didn't mean that. I'm sorry."
"Is that what people from poor backgrounds do? Steal everything from people who have everything?" He sneered at her.
Pandu was directly by his side. "You don't need to apologize for anything" he told Luna and then turned to the woman, who would soon be his ex-wife, "And I'm sure I told you to leave."
Shinta riled but continued walking towards the door until she got out and we could hear her car driving away.
After she left, Pandu turned his head towards Luna and wiped away the tears before embracing her. "It's okay, Luna. You didn't make a mistake, I'm proud of you."
"Dad, you don't have to divorce her because of me. You loved her. I-I can't let you be unhappy like that. All because of me. You should have let me go. That way it'll be easy to-"
"Omong empty! Yes, I love Shinta but she has changed and I love the girl who used to meet in high school and not the woman she is now. I think this is gonna happen soon. And don't ever say that. I'll never leave you, no matter what you do."
"But will you be okay in the future? Without mother". He looked into her eyes.
"I'll survive." He said softly, "You don't have to worry anymore, okay? I love you for who I am, my little daughter." She stroked her hair.
Luna smiled through her tears and we all heaved a sigh of relief
"You must be tired, maybe you should rest" Devan told him.
Luna nodded. "I'm actually a little sleepy right now"
"I'll prepare a guest room for you. You can stay here as long as you want." Miss Daralyn said.
"Thank you" He choked
Luna was taken to her new room which she would occupy for a few days and everyone slowly dispersed for their respective affairs.
While Pandu has to go to the company for a meeting and he will come in the evening to have dinner and meet Luna.
I took a breath and sat on the sofa. This is an important start to my day.
I heard a slow whistle from beside me
"Well, it's one of the less happy couples in the world.
"It's not funny, Raka." I rebuked
"Oh, sorry, I just don't know how to react in a serious situation"
I rolled my eyeballs. "Why are you here? You're just like my fake ex-boyfriend. You have nothing to do with what happened today"
"Darling, don't forget, I was your real ex-boyfriend from two years ago. I want to see you".
"Tell me the truth!." My serge
"Well to answer your questions. I saw Luna's post and knew there would be some drama so I came for tea." He said as he raised his hand to show the cup of hot tea that Amara poured for the third time.
