"Are you okay?" I asked while looking at Devan who was holding his leg
"My sister's stuck." He hisses. "Sickets."
"Wait." I carefully walked towards him and saw his foot stuck between two stones.
"Move the stone". Prattling
I bent over two stones that were clinging to each other blocking his legs and pulled the smaller stone.
Devan's legs were free, but he was in pain.
"It looks like my leg is sprained" he said. I put his foot on the rock and took off his shoes and socks. A small lump begins to form on the ankle and the area appears soft to the touch.
"Try moving a little."
He did as I told him. "Murghh"
"Is this really sick?"
"Yes, I can't move much".
"I'm sorry I didn't catch you."
"It's not your fault I was a little careless, thinking you were going to fall."
"What are we gonna do? There are still thirty minutes of climbing left."
"We can try to walk. But it's gonna be so slow."
"Wait, I've got bandages and painkiller sprays."
I reached into the bag to look for the P3K box and sure enough there were bandages and sprays, sprayed it on his ankle. took out a roll of bandages and started wrapping it around his ankle. there are no scissors so just tie the ends.
"Try your shoes on."
I helped her wear socks but it was hard with her shoes, so I just told her to put her feet inside and not tie the shoelaces.
I wrapped a strong arm around her waist, helping her stand up until she stood on one leg. He tried to temper his injured leg but when his foot slightly touched the ground, he lifted his leg up
"Slowly tread." I said
He put his foot on the ground again and slowly began to put a burden on it. When he stood up with both feet, he tried to step forward but before he could reach the ground again, he lifted him up full of protection.
"I can't walk"
I sat him on the rock. "What should we do?"
"You have to go ahead, reach the cabin, and get help,"
I shook my head. "I can't leave you here."
"Why don't you just leave a bottle of water and some snacks, I can have a picnic here alone." He chuckles
"Are you crazy? Not likely. There might be wild animals here. We never know. And with your condition like this, I won't be going here alone".
"Daria, we have no choice. Hurry up and get someone to come and help me. Won't wait long if you make it there fast."
"Devan, leaving you here is dangerous"
"It's afternoon. I'm secure. It might be dangerous at night"
"I don't want to take any chances".
"Then what's your plan?"
"Bring you there."
"I'm heavier than you, Daria "
"No problem. I'll pretend, I'm a weightlifter "
"Maybe it'll break your back after this. "
"Cool. Then we'll both go home with injuries."
"And I wouldn't go anywhere if you didn't"
"This is not the time to argue"
"That's right, so stop and get on my back. You hold on to this bag" I turned and crouched down
He sighed and with a heavy heart threw the bag over his shoulder.
He awkwardly placed his hand on my shoulder and put my hand under his knee and stood up. He's not as heavy as I thought, I guess I won't be able to stand. But this is a good start.
"Don't exaggerate. If you feel tired, we stop."
I'm nodding. "You're not that heavy."
I started walking. We are walking much slower than before and it will take more than half an hour, but this is better than nothing.
Devan remained silent so that I wouldn't have to talk which would consume a lot of energy with him on my back. Ten minutes later, I was sweating. Devan took a handkerchief and wiped my sweat and continued to apply the next sweat droplets that appeared on my forehead and sides of my face.
He also started fanning me with his hands to keep me cool. He will also tuck away the strands of my hair that will be blown by the wind.
We rested for five minutes each time walking for eight to ten minutes. I was impressed by my ability to carry him through this terrain. During the break, Devan massaged my back and neck and hands to prevent numbness.
As we approached the cabin, he kept insisting on leaving it there, but I did not want to and stopped responding to it after some time. I'll make sure that we get there safely together and in one piece.
Fortunately, most of the ground was flat by the time we reached the top and by the time we reached the cabin, the time was already four in the afternoon. We were hungry and we finished our snacks. I am proud of myself for taking us there.
We were given the cabin keys and one of the people who worked there helped me get Devan to our room.
After she was propped up in bed, she was given the necessary care and immediately collapsed on the bed
"Are you okay?" She asked.
I nodded, not finding the energy to convince her through words
"Fresh yourself. We should go to lunch. I'm starving".
"Why are you starving? You got a horse ride. You don't have to do anything."
"Sometimes my stomach is like a black hole." He said, patting his stomach. "Now come on, I know you're tired but you have to have lunch. You'll feel better"
After the two of us took a shower and changed into comfortable clothes, it was time for lunch. It has a small dining room for climbers staying in their cabins. The day was not too crowded and we did not have to wait long to get in line.
I was so tired after lunch and told Devan to sleep for an hour or two. But even after I woke up I was still tired and my body was in pain.
But we have a plan. We had to go to the lake a few minutes away and fish for dinner. So there's no other choice.
The lake is very big and beautiful. We were given a small boat and fishing rod and bait for fishing by locals who were generous enough to lend it to us for some time.
We set out on our boat and when we were almost in the middle, we decided that this was a good fishing spot. We dipped our fishing rod with the bait on it and waited
We didn't get anything for about fifteen minutes and almost gave up because my already sore arm hurt even more. I tried to hold on for a long time and finally got something. That's not much. Most of us were busy chatting and when we got something, it was small, cute fish that didn't taste good to catch.
Devan told me that when he was a child he loved fishing, but his father was always busy so they could not fish often.
I thought Devan's sprained ankle would ruin our entire trip, but he didn't seem to be taking it too seriously.
"I'm really sorry. I want everything to go perfectly".
"Hey, it's not your fault. Honestly speaking, what does it mean to trek up a mountain without experiencing some bruises here and there? And I'm not that bad, just thinking, nothing serious"
I smiled at him and we returned to concentrating on our joran.
When it gets dark, we think it's time to go back. Our results were not so bad. Devan caught more fish than me, but it was only because my arm was tired while his arm was fine.
When we returned, we returned the fishing rod to the family who owned it and the boat. We gave half of our catch because they did not want to receive the money. They are good and friendly people. They do not want to charge a fee from the person who lent their boat. This makes it look like a business and they don't want it. They really just want the people who come here to have fun.
After we returned to the cabin, we used the kitchen for the dining room to cook the fish after getting special permission from the owner.
We looked for recipes for dinner. When we finally finished, dinner time was past for others which meant we had a dining room to ourselves. I am grateful for the privacy we have
The fish made by Devan is delicious. I like it better than any other cuisine. He is my second favorite cook after Mario. Yes, Mario is at the top and no one can change that.
Devan teases me about how the fish is clearly more delicious and although in my heart I agree, I will not admit it out loud.
