I'm Not Daria

I'm Not Daria
Become a Devan secretary

I met Devan that afternoon. He looked frustrated and in a hurry. For a moment he looked annoyed with me for hitting him, but then he managed to calm himself down and grabbed my hand in his hand.

"You're with me" he ordered, dragging me while walking stumbling behind him.

"What's? Where am I going to be taken?"

He did not answer and I did not refuse even though I should have refused. We got out of the big house and he drove me into his car. He came in right after me and asked the driver to take him to his office.

"Where are we going?" I asked after the car was turned on and we were out of the gate of the mansion.

"My secretary, Angga, there is a family affair and there is a very important presentation today, plus other important events to be attended. This is an important day. A Chinese company is interested in investing in us and I'm sure our joint venture will be very successful. So, I need a secretary today and you need to be her secretary."

"What?" I shouted, "No, I don't want to. I won't be your secretary even for today. I don't even look like a secretary."

"You look fine." He said, without even glancing at me.

"You call it okay?" I asked, pointing at myself. "I look like a bum." A messy bun piled up on top of my head with a million tangles. I was wearing black jeans and a loose white top.

He was really looking at me at the moment. "No, you do look like a bum. But not a vagrant.

"That doesn't help."

"Your clothes are okay. Only your hair needs a little help".

He reached out and removed the rubber band that was holding my hair, making it fall on my shoulder like a wave. She looks like a bad hairdresser to me when she tries to fix my hair. After a long time, he finally looked satisfied and glanced at me in the rearview mirror.it looked neat and I nodded in agreement.

He turned my face towards her and rubbed his thumb against my lips. "Oh my God, you eat like an animal" he said and recalled the time I ate half of a cookie jar a few minutes ago before being dragged by Devan into his car.

"Do I look okay now?"

"Yes"

"What will I get in return?"

"How about we have dinner tonight, with me?" He said it very slowly, I'm not sure if I heard it tonight.

"What?"

"My responsible dinner. Once I'm done with today's work, you'll have half an hour to get ready for dinner".

"You've had a dinner date with Luna"

"You know about it? He asked, surprised. "Well, I canceled it".

"Why did you do that? You're in a relationship with her, why should you leave her for me?"

"Because you're gonna be my personal assistant today. So I owe you dinner."

"No. He'll be mad and I don't want any bad fights between us."

"He'll understand. Trust me, he won't care."

"What happened to you? You've never been polite to me. What the hell are you doing?". I narrowed my eyes at him with suspicion.

Devan took a long breath. " I told you that I gave you this opportunity. A chance for friendship between us. Now you're really starting to bother me, so don't ask anymore and you go to dinner with me."

"OKAY. As long as Luna doesn't mind it."

"He won't" he promised.

I really hope he doesn't because he has helped me a lot and if I make him angry, he might be provoked and tell my lies to Daria's parents.

We arrived shortly afterwards at the company's location. He gave her a pair of silver high heels, saying that they belonged to Luna.

I was suspicious why his high heels were in the back seat of his car, but I immediately pulled them over.

I was so busy admiring the office that I didn't realize that Devan was grumbling impatiently beside me.

"Are you standing there until you get home"? He asked and I started to move after him while throwing a sharp glare at him

"You're walking too slow. We don't have time." He said as he grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the elevator. As soon as we entered, he pressed the button for the nineteenth floor which he told me was his office.

Once we got there, we saw his office space was larger than two rooms in the mansion combined. His desk was full of papers and files. He stirred it for some time before taking out a file and handing it to me.

"They've made my schedule. You just need to make sure you get to your destination on time because I hate punctuality. Understood?"

I'm nodding.

"Can you clean up this mess for me?" He asked while pointing to his desk.

"All the blue files should be put in the cupboard over there and the yellow file in the cupboard next to it. All the papers I have removed from these files must be thrown into the trash, but make sure they have gone through the shredder first. Then make sure there is a glass of any cold liquid available on the table after the presentation and cancel the appointment for a monthly health checkup. Come to the twenty-third floor after you're done here."

"okay." I just wish I could remember all that. He must owe me more than dinner.

He left after that and started working, I was happy to do something rather than laze around in that big house. I sorted the files and collected the papers, tore them up, and threw them in the trash. To break his promise, I went to the receptionist and told him devan's plan. He called and cancelled his promise.

Devan noticed my presence because he had glanced at me a few times before returning his attention to a group of men in neat business suits.

After that, Devan shook hands with some of them and finally they left.

"Let's go to my office. Did you cancel my promise?" He asked while collecting the files he had retrieved.

"Yes, I told the receptionist. I'm sure he did."

"All right."

We entered his office and I quickly got him some juice. He took it in a matter of seconds

"What's next?"

I checked his schedule and there were still some meetings he had to attend. The rest of my day was spent with him as he attended meetings and project discussions.

When we finally finished, the time was already eight o'clock and we were late for dinner. We went home and Anna attacked me with questions about my whereabouts. I told her about my activities and she panicked about our friendship that was getting closer. Our friendship was not very familiar, but it was better than anything.

Anna walked into my wardrobe and was in it for fifteen minutes before I yelled at her that we only had fifteen minutes left or she was going to have dinner with Luna.

She hurriedly took out a silver-colored gown at the top and slowly turned black at the bottom. Then she started applying eyeliner, mascara and cherry red lipstick to me. It is simple but looks good.

We finished five minutes before on time and Devan looked surprised because we came early.

He led me to his car and like a real man, he opened the car door for me, which surprised me. After I sat in the passenger seat, he walked around the car and got in. Anna waved at us and soon we drove to a restaurant.not knowing which one but I guess it was a fancy restaurant. I just wish I wasn't dressed less neatly or worse, overdressed.

The journey by car was not long but it felt like it had been a long time until we got there. The journey was silent with a few words from each of us filling it. I felt very awkward around him, now that we no longer had a bad relationship with each other, could see that he was trying his best to tolerate me. Birthday gift or not, it was a sweet thing of him to try to improve things between us.

The restaurant, as expected, is luxurious with interesting decorations

We were ushered to a private table surrounded by running water on three sides with fake flowers floating on it. The sweet aroma filled the room and the lighting was minimal but sufficient.

"It's good" I commented as we took seats facing each other. A waiter came with a phone in his hand. He gave us a menu and waited for our order. I skimmed through the entire menu and without even tasting it I knew that everything must be delicious. The price doesn't make sense.

I ordered some chicken appetizers and some sort of Malaysian dish whose name sounded interesting to me

He typed our order on the phone before saying that the food would be ready in ten minutes. With a charming smile, she returned to the kitchen.

"So, Daria. Tell me something about yourself. Something I didn't know" Devan said, trying to continue the stalled conversation.

"Eh, I don't know what to tell you" I said because I honestly didn't know what to say to her. "Why don't you ask me about the specific things you want to know?

"OKAY. What's your favorite color?

"Dark blue. And you?"

"Grey"

I'm nodding. "Do you like animals?"

"Of course."

Undoubtedly, our conversation started to get awkward with him asking me questions and I asked him the same questions and we both got a one-word short answer.

"What animal do you like to pet?"

"I'm a dog lover, so I like dogs as pets, especially pugs because they're so cute. Cats are adorable too but I'm allergic to them. I just love seeing it from afar." I said

"Oh, I didn't know you were allergic to cats, I thought you liked it." Devan said without speaking. I realized that I had told her about my fondness for my pet rather than Daria who knew nothing.

"Uh..

"This is your meal, enjoy!" A cheerful voice kept me from answering. We looked up and saw a girl was putting our food down. He gave us a warm smile before walking away.

I immediately took my fork and spoon. "Let's eat, shall we?"

Devan seemed to have forgotten my carelessness and happily ate his food,

We quietly ate our meals, occasionally having small talk that ended within two minutes.

After we finished with the dessert, Devan paid the bill with a big tip that made the boy grin.

Dinner was a lot of fun and now I feel a little comfortable in the car with him.

He drove me back to the mansion and with a good night, we parted ways. He gave his car keys to the driver to park in the underground parking lot.

I rushed to the room with a small smile on my face.
