I'm Not Daria

I'm Not Daria
Complicated

"What's wrong with you?" Mario asked while stirring the soup in the pot subconsciously

"There's nothing." I let out a breath.

"Are you not feeling well?" He asked, pulling my arm so I could face him. He put his palm on my forehead. "You don't have a fever. Are you dizzy?".

"No, I'm fine."

"It's like you don't want to cook" she commented, "You're insensitive."

"sorry".

"It's okay. I've also had days like that" he said, taking a spoon from me.

We cooked in silence until he decided to stop her, "is everything okay?"

"I'm not sure I don't know if it's just me thinking too much about the situation or if the situation is like that."

"I don't understand."

I shook my head. "Don't worry. It's not a big deal"

"Is there anything I can do to help?"

"Hey, Mario. You're a man. So, tell me why would a man avoid a woman he was previously friends with when the woman seemed to have done nothing wrong?"

Mario takes a lot of time to answer. "I don't know. I've never been in a situation like that. But in hindsight, perhaps the man began to feel troubled by his presence. Maybe he didn't want to be friends with the woman anymore and didn't want to be rude and say that to her directly. So he avoided it."

My face bowed at his reply, "Really?"

So he's upset with me. It really made me mad at Devan, wasn't he the one who asked me to befriend him about two months ago?

"Or the man likes the woman but denies it. That's another reason why he avoids it" Mario added.

I dismissed the second reason: "That's impossible."

"Why? Why not that reason?"

"It's not a question of whether or not you can, but you can't".

"What's the problem with that?" He asked, furrowing one eyebrow upwards that felt annoying since I didn't know how I was going to say it.

"That would make things complicated for both of them" I replied. "Especially if the woman begins to doubt whether what she feels in the man is friendship or something more" I whispered quietly enough for Mario to hear

I shook my head. "Nothing"

"So who's this guy that's avoiding you?"

"Nobody, I just want to know. You know, Anna and Gio avoid each other like the plague, so I wonder what's up with them. Because I didn't want to ask them directly, so I thought about asking you"

And it's true, even though the matter with Anna and Gio only saved me from this topic. But it was true that Anna and Gio were avoiding each other. I wanted to ask her this, but I put it off because I was busy thinking about what happened with Devan lately.

Mario doesn't look convinced but also doesn't ask much about the issue

I haven't seen Devan all day. It seems like she had lunch outside after work for the past few days, otherwise she usually took the time to come and eat at home because that was the most suitable for her, she said.

....

When dinner time comes, Devan chats with Mr and Mrs Daralyn every day and when she finishes eating, she will soon be back in her room , go out with Luna or to work and be back late at night, after everyone sleeps.

This continued for a few days. I tried to get Devan to talk alone for at least a few minutes and he always gave me the same answer, that he was busy and we had to talk at a later time.

It clearly tells me that something is not right

"How's your test?" there was Anna's moody voice one morning.

"Pretty good. What about your exam?"

"Good," grunts.

"So I've been wanting to ask you this for a long time, but it's not because you're testing, but it's over now." I turned to her while pouring coffee into two cups "What happened between you and Gio?".

Anna seemed unhappy with the question asked. I gave him a cup of coffee and took one for myself.

"What do you think is going on? We're just following your orders. You want us not to be friends with each other." His tone was slightly taut and he sounded a little angry at me.

"First, I didn't tell you to do that. I said it would be better for us if you did. Two, I'm not talking about how you're not friends with him. I'm talking about the tension between you. Every time he comes, you two avoid each other. I noticed you guys weren't looking at each other or even talking. It doesn't mean you have to break up with him. I was surprised even Gio was acting like that. Gio a month ago had feelings for you and wanted to be with you at any time, but now he rarely comes and when he comes, you two act as if the others don't exist." I answered while sipping my coffee.

Anna rubbed her hair and pulled it to the roots. "Do I have to report everything that happens between us to you?" He asked rudely

"Yes, if it's serious and problems can arise because of it." Answer me firmly

"Then, there's nothing I need to tell you. Regarding the matter between Gio and I, it's better to leave it alone."

We sat in silence until we finished our coffee. "Okay, I believe you. Just don't do anything stupid." I stood up, washed the cup and dried it.
