Next morning. I locked myself in the room after the shower and breakfast, waiting for Anna. He went to scrape information about Mrs Daralyn's plans for my birthday.
He's been gone too long, I almost started chewing on my skin when my nails were done, so I switched to playing video games on my laptop.
But after four rounds, I was bored as well. So I found out about all these rich people and learned a lot about them. I even found out about Devan on Google because I was just curious about him. Most of the articles that exist are about his successful career and how he is the perfect dream man for every woman. Then there are many articles about his serious relationship with Luna with ridiculous titles like "Billionaire man changing bad girl," which refers to Luna's controversial activities in the past.
"Daria", Anna said, opened the door and jumped up and I quickly closed the tab.not wanting her to know I was looking for Devan and looking at her photos with and without Luna like a freak.
"W-what?" I asked, pushing the laptop away from me. He looked at me strangely before shaking his head
"We're in big trouble."
"I know and we have more problems to deal with. What's going on?"
"Daria's birthday is May 27 and-"
"Wait, that day is my birthday."
"Oh my God, I almost forgot your date of birth
"Did you really say that Daria's birthday was on May 27?".
"Yes, right."
"How is it possible? Were we born on the same day? And we look almost alike. We'll both be twenty years old on May 27th" Oh my God".
Anna jerks. "Does that mean you two are twin brothers?"
"No! Don't say anything. That's not possible. It might just be a coincidence." I said as I shook my head to stop thinking about such a ridiculous thing.
"Right," Anna snorted. "You two look like twins. You both have the same birth date. You two will be twenty years old on the same day. She's Adinda Daria and you're Adinda Darla. It's just a coincidence."
"Look, there's a lot going on here right now. Don't want to think about anything else. So please shut up."
I rubbed my hair. I felt like my head was going to explode because I was thinking too much.
"What else did my mother say?"
"She said that she planned to have a grand birthday party for you. He will invite everyone he knows and all of your three hundred friends. He had even ordered a two-tiered birthday cake since you would be twenty years old. He'll fly us all and the guests to their private island."
"Yes God. There's no way Daria wouldn't know about me back then."
"of course.
"What are we gonna do?" I didn't know and was panting at that moment.
"Calm down first, maybe? Uh, why are you breathing like that? Darla, are you okay?"
"I-I'm fine," I waved at him, but my breathless breathing showed otherwise.
Anna pushed me and told me to sit on the bed. "We're gonna think about this, okay? We'll talk to Luna about this. He'll definitely help us. Until then, we'll try to give Ms. Daralyn a subtle hint that you'll really hate her".
I'm nodding. "OKAY. Why didn't you tell me it was a bad idea?"
"It has. But he insisted on his plan. She told me that a mother knows her daughter very well and she was sure you would love her surprise. She didn't know you weren't her daughter at all."
I told him about my phone call to Mrs Angel and how our lecture was about to begin.
"what should I do, Darla. Should we go back or stay?"
"Obviously we should go back. That's not an option."
"I knew. But will Luna let us go?".
It made me speechless. Of course Luna doesn't want us to leave. At least not until the real Daria decides to come out of hiding. He won't care about our problems outside.
I rubbed my face with my hands. "He won't allow it."
Anna shook her head sadly, "You're right. We really have no choice but to stay!
Anna went to her room shortly afterwards because we couldn't find a good plan.
I opened the laptop and searched Adinda Daria on Google. The pictures first appeared and I stared at them for a long time. I'm not trying to find common ground between us, but the difference is not much.
I read articles about him. She was truly a bad and evil girl and her acting was completely incompatible with her. How could his parents trust my actions?
The most recent article is about the activities and events of Daralyn, how they think that a mysterious woman they suspect is their runaway daughter is reportedly wandering around them lately. Goody. People are worried about this problem. I'm sure it won't be long before they'll see the fire.
The possibility of Daria and I having a relationship is another thing that worries me. Why do things always get worse in the best way?
The sun was about to set and the lights in the garden would light up soon. A beautiful orange hue graces the night sky with the chirping of birds flying into its nest. The blooming trees look more beautiful than during the day.
I was so dreamy that I didn't notice the presence of someone behind me until the person was sitting next to me
"Oh my God, Mario-" I paused when I realized that it wasn't Mario, but someone who didn't think I'd meet Devan.
"I'm sorry, I'm not your little girlfriend, Mario, '" he said
"Mario's not my boyfriend".
He didn't say anything and neither did I. The silence between us felt awkward and I knew this was the last place she wanted to be, especially with me. So why is he here?
"Why are you here?" I asked, voicing my thoughts
"I was forced by our friends to be here."
"Why?"
"They want me to talk to you because in a few days you're gonna have a birthday".
I'm appalled. "And you just agree with them?"
"I decided to be a better person and try to-" he paused for a moment, looking for the right word,
"Knowing the real me?" I'm suggesting.
"Don't flatter yourself, but yeah, something goes along with that."
I turned my head away from her to hide my smile.
I pressed my lips into a thin line and stared straight ahead. It was strange to talk to him without any insinuation or insults.
"After all, why are you here? You've rarely visited this park before." He said, relaxing his stiff shoulders and leaning back
"It's very peaceful here. It gives me the right environment to think and move away from things. Sometimes I like to be here for no reason at all".
He's nodding. "Yes, it's not that bad here!"
"Have you never visited this park?" I was curious, looking at him from the corner of my eye.
He nodded, "i rarely have time."
"Oh."
I looked around, thinking of something I could say. "Are you never tired of doing so much work? The only time I see you not working is when you're eating or sleeping."
"What do you mean you saw me sleeping?"
I rolled my eyeballs. In your dreams
"I didn't know there was a peep peeking at me while sleeping" he said, with a slight grin at the corner of his lips.
"My answer."
"Well, sometimes I feel overwhelmed at the sheer amount of work. Sometimes I just want to run away from all this." He sighed sadly
"Then why not?"
"It wasn't easy"
I raised an eyebrow asking but he just shook his head. He turned his gaze from the scene towards me and looked at me longer than he should.
"What?" I asked
"You know, I really feel as if I'm not talking to you, as if I'm talking to someone else".
My breath is stuck in my throat. At that time the lights in the garden lit up, illuminating the garden dimly. I didn't realize it was getting dark and I had to go inside.
"We have to go." I said, stand up and clean up the dirt on my pants.
The park entrance is a beautiful pebbled walkway decorated with small lights that illuminate the trail. We walked back inside together and found Anna and Gio with shocked expressions on their faces.
I turned my eyeballs towards them.
"Hows it? When's? Damn Daria, you just lost my imaginary Mercedes to Gio". Anna mutters.
I shook my head and laughed at their silly behavior. Maybe Devan and I can try to make friends.
