"Pritta?." Luna exhaled. "What are you doing here?"
Pritta looked at us suspiciously
"I can also ask you the same thing. I'm here because Samantha's looking for you, so you better find her and talk to her right now before she goes berserk".
******* our synchronized relief follows. Pritta didn't hear our talk
Luna nodded. "I'll be looking for him soon".
Luna left and with a small smile towards me, Pritta also went to her room.I closed the door and leaned my head there. Just barely. If Pritta hears us, we'll definitely get in big trouble.
...
The next morning, I found Devan in the hotel lobby with his cell phone and laptop around him. As soon as he saw me, he immediately grabbed his phone and hugged it tightly in his chest.
I laughed and walked over to where he was sitting.
"Don't worry, I won't damage your phone." I said as I sat next to him.
"I can never trust you." As a precaution, he put his phone in his pocket.
"What are you doing?" I asked while staring at the files in front of him and the various tabs that were open on the laptop.
Devan glanced at the laptop and struggled, "i don't have much work to do today and it was rather boring, not knowing what to do. I was looking for a meeting or another job in Paris but I think most of it was done yesterday".
"Seriously?"
"What?"
"Why do you like to work so much? You're like a workaholic." pointed at the table to prove my point
"I don't like it. I just don't know what else to do right now and just because I like to work too much doesn't mean I'm crazy for work."
"Have you had any fun while we were here?"
Devan cleared his throat and could see a grin forming at the corner of his lips. "Depending on what you mean by having fun?"
I threw a backrest pillow at him and hit the side of his face. "It's not like that, you pervert"
Devan let out a laugh "Then, it means there's nothing fun."
I pointed towards him. "That's because you don't know how to have fun."
"Then teach me.
I stood up and looked at him. "Wake up."
"What's? why?"
I grabbed his arm and pulled him up. "I'm gonna make sure you have fun once in your life."
"OKAY? Wait, let me put my stuff in my room"
I saw a man who was part of the hotel staff walking over and stopped him "Here, take him to Devan's room Thank you" I said as I thrust the laptop into the man's hand which looked a little confused. I gave him his room number and he went to finish his job.
I turned to Devan, "Now let's go."
Devan followed me out of the hotel. "Where are we going?"
"I don't know. Do you know this area? If I take you anywhere, can you find your way back to the hotel"
"I mean, I've been here a lot and I think I can find my way home." He doesn't sound very sure about it but Aky decides to ignore it
"Good." I grinned at him. "Again, you have a cell phone so you can call your driver if we get lost."
"alright. But, don't try to ruin my phone." The fact that he wasn't being teased and was really serious about it made me turn the eyeballs towards him.
I hit her arm playfully and to my surprise, she hit me gently back in the arm
We walked down the street for a while before Devan spoke. "Where exactly are we going?"
I shrugged my shoulders. "I don't know yet. How about we go to the Eiffel Tower?"
"We've been there a thousand times."
"But it's been almost two years that we haven't been there!" my protest
"All right, let's go." He sighed.
We took a taxi, which made Devan very disappointed, to get there.
Devan wanted to take the elevator, but I pushed him up the stairs. When he grumbled about all the walking he had to do, I quipped him about his fitness. This seemed to upset him because he suddenly started climbing the stairs faster.
"What's going on? Can't match my speed?" He sneered, seeing me panting
"Of course not." I said on the sidelines gasping, "Your race is up to the top"
With that I pulled myself up and started running up the stairs to chase after him. He I was confused for a precious few seconds as long as I chased after him
We climbed the stairs, making sure that we didn't bump into people or step on them. There were many people, many of whom were moving at snail speed which made me feel irritated, I immediately started to lose sight of Devan
After what feels like forever, it finally gets to the top only to find Devan leaning against the fence.
"I shouldn't be racing with people who have no chance of winning"
"Yes? How come?"
"The people in front of me are moving very slowly"
Devan laughed, giving a hard blow to my stooped body. I stood up straight, ignoring his hands and looking at the world below.
I've never been here. This was my first time at the Eiffel Tower. It's breathtaking. The view is amazing and it doesn't feel like coming down from the tower anytime soon
There was a set of large binoculars and picked it up before anyone else got it.
"Wow. It's beautiful"
Devan did not say anything, he just stared into the distance with his hands leaning against the fence.
We spent about an hour up there, chatting and enjoying the view until Devan finally had to drag me down. If permitted. I could have spent the whole night there. It would be amazing to sleep under the stars and above the vibrant lights of the city. But unfortunately all good things have to end and I have to end sooner.
After we got down, we were hungry. Devan advised me to go back to the hotel because it seemed like it was quite fun for him, but he wouldn't come back.
I took her to a local restaurant and Devan's face was well worth the photo. I knew eating in a small restaurant wasn't her first choice for a meal, but she was still sitting on the chair.
"May they have good food or I'm out of here." He said while observing his surroundings.
"Don't worry, I think you'll like it here.
We ordered some local food and although Devan initially hesitated to taste it, when he tasted it, no one could stop him.
His healthy food diet flew out the window as he mindlessly ordered more food and devoured everything. Not even eating as much as he saw eating, like a pig, I might add.
The other side of Devan, who loves food at small restaurants he doesn't usually glance at, is, what took me to the top of the Eiffel Tower and not always talking about work was the other side of the fun I didn't know.
I'm so glad he's having fun and it doesn't include work.
When we finished, we paid for the food and started walking on a crowded street. It was three o'clock in the afternoon.
"What's next?"
"I've been searching on Google about what else we can do and wasn't disappointed. There's still a lot to see. For now, we will go to the Museum of Contemporary Art of the City of Paris,"
Devan grimacing. "I don't like art"
"It's a shame you don't have a choice."
We arrived at the museum which is completely free as it is a city museum. It is only a few minutes walk from the tower. The museum exhibits permanent and temporary modern artworks from the 20th century to the present day.
The museum is so vast and beautiful that we spent a few hours just looking around. At first Devan was not very interested, but at the end of the visit, I had to pull him out by force because he whined to ask to go home too soon.
"You're acting like a child. Have you ever been to a museum?" ask me when we get out.
"No, I was never interested. He stopped walking and narrowed his eyes at me. "I don't act like a child."
"Oh, of course not," I said with a cynic that he ignored.
"So, since when have you been interested in these kinds of things?" Devan asked after a few minutes of walking in silence.
"Just now," I shrugged, lying through my teeth.
"It's not very like you. I mean, two years ago if you were to take me out to have fun with you, I would have thought you'd take me to a movie, or worse, take me to the mall to do some shopping. No one is close to wandering the streets, visiting places like museums or even towers, eating in small restaurants," he said, shaking his head "That's not you at all. I can't help but notice that you're not who you used to be."
"People change," I said, avoiding eye contact because I'm sure it's uncomfortable and hard to lie to her face.
He signaled to me. "That's such a drastic change in two years?"
I didn't answer. I was saved by a gulali seller. "Look, cotton candy"
He looked at me strangely "Yes, I know it's cotton candy"
"Bas stupid, let's buy it"
"Cotton candy? Are you crazy. Do you know how many calories there might be in it"
"You just ate a food truck a few hours ago. I suffocate"
"You used to panic about calories??!!"
"You won't get fat just by eating one cotton candy"
"It doesn't seem like it, but it takes a long time to get rid of that fat"
I'm upset, upset. "I can't believe I fought just over eating cotton candy. Can you let it go for at least a day?"
"Are we too old to eat cotton candy?"
"Nobody is too old to eat cotton candy. Now let's go." I didn't give him time to protest while pulling his arm and heading towards the stall.
After we get our cotton candy, thrust one into his hand and bite my cotton candy.
"It's starting to feel weird"
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"It's not you."
