The next day, I started working. Assuming that I need at least two days to prepare everything, I will throw a surprise party for Mario by inviting his entire family.
I decided that the best place for it was Daralyn's vast garden. No one visited the park more than me and Mario and the gardeners who took care of it.
I told my father about this plan, told him all the reasons why we should throw this party. To get her to agree, I said that this is also a small tribute party for all the chefs and kitchen staff, although this is mainly for Mario's birthday, but he doesn't need to know that. To my delight, she said that she couldn't take the time for this appreciation party and I told her, I'll take her place and be the host. No one was really interested in being the host of the awards party, which left me a little disappointed that I was expecting something better from them. But I said to myself , I wasn't in their position and they really didn't have time for it because of their packed schedule and the party I decided to hold at the last minute.
So, the only people who could attend were the kitchen staff, the entire Mario family and me. Anna refuses on the grounds she has to talk to Luna about her college. I didn't really expect him to come to the party.
I was relieved that not many people would be present which meant that no media attention would be on us. I will make sure that the party is safe so that no one can sneak in or get the point because it means the whole world will know about me, most likely including Daria.
I sent out invitations to his family and arranged their transportation. They called me and told me how bad they felt about having forgotten his birthday, they would make sure that they would be present at the party with lots of gifts for Mario.
I gave the order for the party decorations and told them that they had two days. The garden is cleaned of fallen leaves, the grass is mowed and watered. There was no need for much preparation because the garden was already beautiful even before that.
I ordered a big cake with Mario's name on it. Also insisted on making a whirling birthday decoration. I could have told someone else to do it but I really wanted to do something for him and this was all I could do. I also had to buy him a gift but it was delayed because I was still thinking about what to give him and I was still confused.
....
In the evening, after keeping all the activities and progress.preventing Mario go to the garden is a difficult task.
I finally got the materials needed to make a birthday decoration.
The materials were bought and delivered the next day by two maids at home who voluntarily took them for me. They offered to take her to my room, but I refused because I could obviously do this and thanked them for their help.
I took the box from them, I started heading to my room, watching the surroundings for signs of Mario.
When I reached the stairs leading to my room, my steps came to a halt as I peered up and saw Devan coming down. I panicked, not wanting to face him right now and rewind my steps. I turned around to leave, but I saw Mario in the distance behind me, talking to Amara who saw the big box in my hand. It could easily leak our plans. He gestured for me to leave as he tried to behave normally. There is nowhere else to hide.
I had no other choice but to climb the stairs.pronounce it in my heart to keep my head upright and pretend as if there was no one around me.
I managed to take a few steps, hearing Devan's footsteps approaching from second to second.
For a split second I made the mistake of looking at her and seeing that she was also looking at me at that very moment.
I couldn't look away after our eyes looked at each other. I tightened the handle on my box and accelerated my pace.
He sighed as if he was tired of something. "I don't have time right now to talk to you."
I was confused by what he said, but I said nothing and my feet carried me past him and up the stairs. He cut off his own words when he saw me not stopping my steps to talk to him. He probably realized that I wasn't there to talk to him from the start. I laughed softly hearing it. I completely ignored him and he didn't see that.
I'm sure he expected me to keep going after him, even after what happened, but I seemed to let him down.
But I didn't have time to think about it because I had so much to do.
.....
The rest of the day was spent on preparation.making birthday decorations for her because that was all I could do. I couldn't make a cake for her because I didn't know how and wouldn't be able to eat even if the battery tried to make it. Plus, I have to be in the kitchen where Mario lives, so he definitely knows what I'm doing.
...
I had until seven o'clock the next night, but I wanted to get it today. didn't want to risk Mario seeing the prize if it came out to pick it up in broad daylight. I barely managed to get the materials for the decoration without his knowledge, looking for a gift would be much harder to carry and hide until the party.
I want to pick a gift for him. I don't know if anyone will take me to the gift shop. It was ten o'clock at night. It's been hours since we had dinner and everyone must have been in the room or office. The drivers must have gone home and no one was around.
So I did the only thing I thought of, that could help me in this kind of situation.
I knocked on Devan's door
He opened it a few seconds later, I didn't expect him to be in his room, but looking at his bed, I knew he was at work, as he always did.
He looked surprised when he saw me, "What are you doing here?"
"I want you to take me somewhere."
"Why should I?"
"Because no one else is driving me and no one is letting me drive myself."
He saw his watch. "Where should you go this late?"
"It's very important. You'll know when we get there"
Devan stretched his body, his shirt slightly raised so I could peek at his stomach. I turned my eyes to another place.
He yawned and moved his neck from one side to the other. Obviously he was very tired.
I felt guilty for making him drive me to the gift shop. I was about to tell her to forget that and go to bed but she agreed to it before then.
"Okay, give me a minute to change clothes"
I'm nodding. "Thank you"
I'm waiting for him in the hallway. Less than a minute later, she opened her bedroom door and noticed that she had changed into warmer clothes.
"You should wear a scarf. I don't want anyone to see your face."
"It's late at night. Not many people will recognize me. Besides it won't take too long.just need to buy something"
"No problem. It's cold out there"
Without saying anything, she walked into my room and opened my wardrobe.I protested a bit over her annoyance but she quickly pulled out a knitted scarf and wrapped it around my body.
"Let's go."
