I'm Not Daria

"Darling, the fish is dead. Why are you trying to kill him again?". Mrs Daralyn asked me with a frown on her face.

We all sat at the dinner table. The day after Devan's stupid plan against me and my anger still hasn't gone away. My blood is still boiling.

I didn't realize what was actually done to the fish because I was more busy imagining Devan as that fish and doing what I wanted to do to him, stabbing him to death.

Devan shifted uncomfortably on his seat at the dining table, right in front of me. I was happy with myself for at least being able to make her feel a little uncomfortable in front of me.

"Sorry," I said softly and grimaced to see the fish on my plate. Because of stabbing him repeatedly, I also gouged out his eyes.it would be very happy if the one who replaced him was Devan and not the poor fish.

I glared at Devan again who was now looking at my plate with his lips slightly open and his nose frowning in disdain.

the fish's eyes got stuck.

"Devan, did you do something to Daria? Why is he staring at you like that? Did you two fight?" Madame Daralyn asked.

I looked at him and raised an eyebrow.

"Eh, it's nothing. We didn't fight. And do nothing to him" he said and cleared his throat, avoiding eye contact with me

"Oh, really?" I murmured, but loud enough to be heard by everyone at the dinner table.

Anna didn't notice us, probably already used to our silly jokes and squabbles

"Don't worry, Mrs Daralyn, everything's fine" Devan tried to convince her.

The rest of my time at the dinner table was spent glaring at Devan, hoping that I would gain superpowers that made it possible to bury him alive a thousand meters under my eyes so that he would never be able to reappear.

Unfortunately, it didn't happen, no matter how hard I tried.

....

Next day. I found a young lady waiting in the living room. I was just passing by when I saw him leaning on the couch with a phone in his hand.

He was wearing a nice white shirt and high-waisted black jeans with black high heels. Her long, wavy brown hair with blonde highlights was left on her back. She has beautiful gray eyes. She looks so beautiful and friendly

I slowly approached her, unsure of who she was

Sensing my presence, he looked up. As he did so, his eyes widened and his mouth agape, I immediately regretted having approached him

"Um, how can I help you?"

He frowned at me before replying. "I was waiting for Devan, he said he'd be down in a minute. Are you really." she hesitated, "... Daria?"

"Of course" I said hesitantly, shaking my hair back.

What if he goes and babbles on the paparazzi about me?

His eyes widened. "Daria? Daria Daralyn? A lost and found daughter? My best friend?"

Bullshit

"How do you know? Mom says no one but my family knows." Then I woke up. He must be my family too.

He looked sullen but soon disappeared.

"Well, I'm family, aren't I? Our family has not only professional ties, but also personal ties. Besides, my sister married your sister, Samantha." Said.

Oh. He is Ardhika's sister.

"Do you remember me, Daria? I'm your best friend, Luna! How could you forget me?"

Luna?? Who was dating Devan that day?

I remember Devan mentioning Luna who had dated him. What does he see in Devan? Didn't he see the monster in him? He must be very naive not to realize his evil self.

"I didn't forget you, Luna, uh, I was just surprised to see you here"

There was an awkward silence between us with Luna watching me from head to toe.

Then she smiled sweetly at me. "We have to get out"

I'm throats. "Of course."

We heard footsteps behind us and we turned at the same time to look at Devan who was busy wearing his watch, "Sorry to have kept you waiting, Luna. I woke up bad luck." Then he looked at us.

"It doesn't matter at all. ended up meeting with Daria". I don't know why there was hatred in his voice.

"Of course," Luna replied and turned her head towards me. "Hey Daria, I hope you don't mind me seeing Devan, huh? I know you hated him a long time ago, but I'll explain everything to you later."

"OK," I said, shrugging because I really don't care if she's dating Devan.

"We'll meet soon." She said firmly, her face was blank and I was surprised by the change in tone. That sounds like a warning

"Y-yes." I stuttered which made me pat my chest in my heart.

Daria they knew would not stutter at all!

He gave me a satisfied grin before waving my hand

I said goodbye, ignoring Devan who walked past me with him, watching them leave. As they almost disappeared from my sight, Luna reached out and whispered something in her ear.

They held hands and he immediately pulled her closer before they disappeared.

I rolled my eyes. Poor luna.

....

"Mom" I started off casually at lunch.

"Did you remember Luna?" It was a very stupid question, which I realized

"Of course, honey. She's a good girl, other than your best friend."

"So mom told him I was back?"

"Why not? He is the only true friend you have. And he's family, so of course he'll know."

"Oh, um.. What's our relationship with them. You know, professionally?".

"Well, your father had a lot of business collaborations with Luna's father. And they were a great success. We're all very close. Her mother is a mother's friend. His father was your father's best friend. But a strange question to ask. You already know that."

"Two years is enough for me." smiled nervously. "Is she like... dating someone?"

Ms. Daralyn knitted her brows. "I guess so. I've seen some news articles about him and Devan, but maybe it's wrong. They might just be friends, I don't know. Mothers try not to interfere in their personal lives as long as they... You know, be careful, be responsible and nobody gets hurt because of some sort of agreement between them to have an affair while for the sake of pleasure."

"Oh my God, are you insinuating that they're friends with profit?" I asked, who has now stopped eating.

"I really don't know, Daria. At least that's what I read in one of the articles. It seems like this kind of agreement is common among young people now".

"But not everything that the paparazzi reported was true, was it?"

"Of course not. But some are right. So, just stay away from all this. But if mothers feel something, like a forbidden relationship that could harm our relationship with our family or friends, we should interfere. But Devan and Luna look good and I think they're pretty serious about each other. His mother will be very happy. He likes Devan so much, He's with us all so worried about Luna. He's your best friend, so you know, right? She was a wild and adventurous girl a few years ago, just like you. A heartbroken man and a playgirl in his high school. He was never home. His mother feared he would never be satisfied with one man, and the things the paparazzi wrote about him made it hard to believe which was true and which was not".

"So.he's changed?"

"Yes, he changed forever. Unfortunately, you weren't there to witness it."

"I'm sure Devan changed it or something".

Mrs Daralyn chuckled. "No, the girl was never affected by anyone. She changes herself when her mother warns her that if she does not stop her humiliating ways, she will marry him in an arranged marriage. It worked out quite well".

"So, her mother wasn't really serious, was she? He just did it to stop it."

"No, he's serious about getting her married. Luna often rebelled and ran away somewhere. Later, he was found in their old resting house. Seeing her mother very seriously, she changes her ways and promises him that she will get a really serious boyfriend and now she is with Devan.it's no wonder that they are just friends with profits."

I'm nodding. "She looks like a really innocent and sweet girl now. Not like he used to."

"Yes, that was the old Luna. He assured us all that this was the new Luna. Now she attends all the family events, no more news of her affair and most of the articles are just about her fairy tale love story and Devan. Kanu missed a year of Luna's total transformation."

"Oh, great. Except for Devan, he's not a prince charming.

"Look, honey, I know you didn't like it in the first place, but you're all grown up. You are no longer children. You are mature and responsible adults. So maybe you should give him a chance. He's not as bad as you think. He's a good guy. Very smart, very smart and very handsome. He was always the ideal boy and there was never any news that he was a playboy. You two might be best friends. Recognize her. Know that he may sometimes act cold, but you can blame his profession. Businesspeople are required to be unemotional and professional. That's what makes a good businessman. Just try you'll see how great he is."

I could see from his eyes that he really believed her. I concur. Maybe he's not that bad. I know for a fact that everyone has a different version of someone in their head and often the two versions can be quite opposite.

"Do I have to change my behavior?" I said with sulk

"Please, for mom's sake?" She asked.

"OK, whatever," I said, not really intending to try to get to know him.

He smiled at me and we continued our lunch.
