I froze. For a whole minute I could do nothing but fall silent at the bewildered Amara.
"Are you okay?"
"Eh," I jolted from my daydream. "What did you say?"
"I told you there was a woman waiting in the living room. He's looking for you and he looks like you. That's unbelievable. I thought you were just kidding, but you two are really different people."
"I'll be there soon." My voice vibrates. I expected Daria to come back but nothing prepared me for this moment.
I have to find Luna right away because if Daria is here, it means Luna definitely knows she's coming. Why didn't he warn me before?
But it was like having my own thoughts on approaching the stairs, I could not deny that the part of me that wanted to meet the woman had been pretending for months.
I can see the back of his head. She's a redhead but I know she's a natural brunette and she just dyed her hair and cut it to a shoulder to avoid recognition.
He sat on the couch, behind me. I was about to do something, maybe run away but stopped when Devan got into sight. I cursed in my heart. He was supposed to be at work but seemed to be late because we woke up late.
He watched her and changed direction, stepping towards her. He stopped in front of her and saw her tilting her head to look at her.
"You cut and dye your hair? When did you do it?" He didn't give her time to say anything. "It looks good."
He looked around and then disaster happened. He leaned over and kissed her lips.
My hand reflexively moved to my face to cover up the scene. It only lasted for a while and then Daria's voice echoed within the room.
"What the hell is this" He pushed her back and before she could react, she landed a slap in her face.
Devan stood there, with red cheeks. I hissed in reaction as if I was the one being slapped. I feel pity.
"Devan!!, what are you doing!!!?"
"Da-da -Dariaaaa!!?"
"Yes, I'm Daria. Your number one enemy, if you forget"
"What are you doing here?" It was a question I didn't expect he would ask. Should have been, 'Why did you just slap me when we were dating and already kissed a hundred times?
"Do I need a reason to be in my own home. And I have to ask this. What are you doing in my house? Where's that girl pretending to be me?"
Before he could answer, I was pulled by someone who turned out to be Luna.
"Luna, he's here. Why didn't you tell me earlier?" I want to sound like an accusation
"I don't know. He just sent me a quick message that he's outside the gate and he's coming in. He didn't tell me he was planning to go back. He must have known he was involved and thought I would protect you and help you escape?"
"What should we do? Should we go and talk to him?"
"No," he said sharply. "You and Anna have to go. I'll handle everything here."
"Is that okay? He wants to see me."
It's all too sudden. I don't have time to process everything. All I thought about was one person who had become so important to me. "But what about Devan?"
"Right now I'm sure he knows everything. He might come looking for you. You have to leave before that happens. Once I can control the situation, I'll give you your address. Don't try to get close to him before that".
I don't like this at all. I have to leave before I can talk to him, maybe for the last time. That hard.
Luna went to pick up Anna from her room, blindly walking to my room and picking up the bag containing my belongings. At least our photos on our various dates were transferred to my old phone.
I can't just leave. I didn't have much time, so I tore up a page and started writing.
Devan.
You might be very angry with me. You must have felt very confused and betrayed. You might be thinking who I really am.
I'm Adinda Darla. I've wanted to tell you since I started liking you. I couldn't give an excuse, so I just said that it wasn't my choice that determined whether I should tell you or not.
I want you to know that we're real. I'm real. I realized it even with a fake name. I am the real me. I am myself. And I love you.
And if you still love me, come and see me because I'm gonna miss you since I stepped out of this house,
Love's.
Darla Devina's
I'm sure my handwriting isn't this bad. It's just that I'm in a hurry and Luna is forcing me to leave as soon as possible
I folded the paper neatly into a square and put it in my first drawer containing origami paper that failed to fold. He'll find this letter if he misses me just a little bit.
At that moment Luna stuck out her head. "Come on. If there is anything left, I will send it to you later. Devan and Daria are still talking but it won't last long. I told Amara to distract them both with food."
"I'm coming. And I borrowed these shoes." I tried not to cry but I knew it was close.
I pulled the bag on my shoulder and followed Luna out. Anna looked at me with a sad look.I know she was happy because we finally got out of here.she just felt sorry for me.
Luna led us out of the back gate, but before we parted, I turned to her. "I'll call you when we get into the cab. Please answer and keep the phone. I want to hear whatever you're gonna talk about"
"okay." Luna said simply. "Now you must hurry. These. You don't have to give it back. Think of it as entertainment money because you can't work part-time. He thrust a large white envelope into my hand that I knew was money. I'm going to refund my entertainment money for using all the luxuries while I'm here and for messing things up"
We waved at him and reluctantly walked down the street where a taxi was already waiting in the distance.
As soon as we got in and Anna read out her address to the driver, the taxi pulled me away from the side of the road, pulled me away from Devan and sent me a wave of sadness.
I pulled out my phone and called Luna's number. He immediately picked it up. There was a moment of silence, then a few hasty footsteps.
"Luna!" Daria's voice surprised me, even though I expected it.
Luna was a little breathless. Daria, hi. Makutaannn!?
"Where is he?" Her tone contained no hatred, but only curiosity, but I lied if I said that it did not frighten me.
