I'm Not Daria

I'm Not Daria
The twins?

After that they all started to slowly come out of my room. Liam ruffled my hair before leaving and Samantha hugged me once more.

I gave a kiss on the cheek to Jess. I didn't expect her to wish me a happy birthday at twelve, but I was happy. My parents kissed me on my forehead before they went back into the room. Devan's been gone a long time.

Now there's only Anna, Bella and Luna in my room.

"I'm not saying happy birthday because it's not your birthday." Luna said with an empty face. "I've said happy birthday to my real best friend right at twelve."

"OK," I said awkwardly.

Why did he say this to me?

"Maybe you need to know that today is Darla's real birthday, and I wish a happy birthday to my real best friend, not my fake best friend," Anna replied "exactly at twelve."

I started to think that he didn't like Luna very much

Luna looked surprised for a moment before immediately calming down. "Oh, I don't know that."

"What?" Bella screeched, "Today is also your real birthday?"

I nodded and suddenly Bella hugged me a second time

"Happy birthday, Darla," he said enthusiastically with a chuckle.

"Thank you."

Bella quickly stepped back and nudged Luna on the shoulder. "Come on. Pray him! Today is his real birthday"

Luna groaned but reluctantly turned her head towards me. "Happy birthday, I guess."

"Thank you."

"Yes God. Are you and Daria, like, twins or something?". Bella asked, her big blue eyes looking at me in wonder. "You have the same name, the same appearance, and the same date of birth!"

"That's ridiculous!" Luna cut in, "Daria doesn't have a twin sister!".

"Are you sure?" Bella asked. "What if he keeps that from us?"

"Daria would never do that. He'll tell us. And it doesn't make sense either. Darla is a regular guy. If she is Daria's twin sister, why isn't she with us? Why did he work as a waitress in a small cafe? No offense Darla".

"Yes no," I shrugged.

"But-"

"Enough, Bella! Darla and Daria are not related. It was just an unintentional coincidence. That's all it is." Luna says. "Good night Darla."

With that he dragged the confused Bella behind him.

"I'm really starting to hate Luna" Anna muttered

"Let's just sleep" I suggested and Anna.

I was alone in the room again. I don't want to think about Bella's words.

Could we be twins?

But then Luna's words rang out in my head and all the thought that I was Daria's sister instantly disappeared.

You are not his sister!!!.

I turned off the lights, got under the covers and let sleep rule me.

...

There was a light knock on my bedroom door At first I wasn't sure if it was a knock, but then it got louder and more frequent.

I opened my eyes, looking at my alarm clock in disbelief as 4:12 in the morning looked at me.

I woke up four hours ago! Is that not enough for them? Why do they have to wake me up again? What else, they want to pray for me because this is the time of Daria's birth?

I rolled to the side, lethargicly dragging myself towards the door. At least they had the decency to knock on the door this time.

I opened the door, squinting in the dark hallway at the figure staring at me.

Devan

"What are you doing here so early?" my voice sounded hoarse from sleep.

"I want to take you somewhere". I couldn't see his face because of the darkness

"Where?" I asked in confusion.

"You'll know as soon as we get there."

"No." I said firmly. "I want to sleep.

"I didn't give you a choice. I told you to come with me. Just put on a sweater and meet me in the parking lot in five minutes. If you don't show up. I'll drag you there myself." With that, he turned around and started walking away

I protested but he did not listen, arguing whether to lock himself in the room and sleep alone, but then remembered there was an extra set of keys for my room and he could drag me outside.

Sighing, I took out a wool sweater from the closet and put it on. Brushed my hair a little, let it run down because it was still a little cold. Brushed my teeth and got out of my room. I'm pretty sure it's been over five minutes and she's probably on her way to drag me to the parking lot.

The house was quiet. The living room lights were still on but there was no one around. Being the only person who was awake and alone in this mansion started to scare me, so I immediately ran out.

I closed his eyes.

I quietly opened the car door and went in next to him. He's not awake yet. Goody. He woke me up and asked me to come down and now he's the one sleeping. I poked her cheek and her eyes opened. He glanced at me

"Don't ever do that again" he said annoyedly. He started the car. Closed the door.

"Think about this. So, where are we going?"

"If you remember our childhood, the days before we became mortal enemies, then you'll know where I'm taking you."

Uh oh's. "I don't remember."

"Ouch. I'm hurt." He said clearly.

I smiled at him, "You once said that I can't hurt you in any other way, other than physically."

He didn't answer and I leaned back in my chair, looking for clues as to where he was taking me.

"Wait!" I flinched to my feet. "Are you sure Luna's gonna be okay with this?"

He looked confused for a moment. "Why won't he be okay?"

"Well, with him being your girlfriend and so on. What if he doesn't like this, you take me out at four in the morning?"

"Oh, that's not to worry. He trusts both of us."

"Silent. He won't eat you. And I told you it's okay with him. And anyway I'm not gonna turn this car around, we're almost there"

"Okay, if you say so."

I turned to stare out the window, realizing that we were going away from the city. The streets started to grass and the buildings were getting less and less as we drove away from the city.

I don't know why Devan said that we were almost there because when we actually got where he wanted to be, we just got there half an hour later

I stepped out of the car, not seeing anything in front. Darkness doesn't help either. Around him it was pitch black and the only thing that emitted light was the headlights of the car.

"Where are you taking me?" ask me while walking forward.

"The surprise that makes you not remember." Devan said quietly from behind me.

"All right..." I fell silent, racking my brain in search of a suitable answer. "It's been a while. And it would be very helpful if there was lighting around here.

"Be careful," Devan exclaimed, grabbing my arm and pulling me back and to his chest.

I realized that I would step on a steep slope that could make me slip into the unknown.

"Sorry," I sighed.

Devan led me, not letting go of my hand

When we walked a little further. I started to see light spots and stood with my toes to get a better view.

I gasped when I saw what was really there. We were at the top of the ravine with the most amazing view before our eyes.

The whole city smiled at me with flickering lights. I was surprised to see so many people getting up so early. It was only five in the morning. This is my usual waking time at home and it feels different when I wake up at this hour.

I could see cars driving down the street and could see all the lights were on in the apartments

It really feels like being on top of the world.

"That's pretty good" I whispered.

"Yes, you remember we both found this place one day when the driver forgot his way home because I don't know what?"

"Yes" I said, not knowing what else to say.

"And then we found this place and decided to come here together whenever we wanted."

"Yes. But why did you bring me here?"

Devan shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. Maybe, because today is your birthday?".

"thank you. I almost forgot about this place." walked a little further and sat on a flat rock

"Come, sit with me. "I gestured for Devan to come

"Wouldn't. There might be snakes here." He looked around to find the creatures

"Just a minute".

Devan hesitated but eventually sighed and walked over to where I was sitting.

"Sit down" I said, grabbing her hand and pulling her down as she just stood there staring at me.

Devan looked around to look for snakes and insects, finally he was silent after a while. However, he still looked uncomfortable and I resisted the urge to laugh at him.

"Have you ever been here without me?" I asked as I stared at the city lights and the stars above.

"A few times after you ran away." He confessed, his eyes were also fixed on the scene in front of us.

I nodded "Oh".

"How does it feel?" He whispered. I barely heard it.

"Huh? You meanwhat?"

"You know, run away. Of all this. Your family. Your old life."

"Eh, it feels different, I-I'm not used to that kind of life. I missed my parents so much at first and wanted to come back as soon as I left. But something stopped me. And then it's just a stupid but fun change. If I didn't like it, I would have been back a long time ago."

He's nodding.

"Your little action now makes me want to try it too."

"What?" I grunt. "You sure you can survive without all your work?"

Devan pretends to think about it. "No, I don't think so. Shit, that's a bad idea." We both laughed out loud

"Sliced as I thought. Don't try to escape. It would break your parents' hearts" I said seriously

"I won't do it" he promised, making me smile.

We were like possessed people, staring at each other. It looks like we've been staring at each other for hours.

Very slowly, not even sure if he was moving but suddenly we leaned against each other, our breaths mingled together and I felt my heart start beating fast.

Her eyes flickered onto my lips before she gently bit her lower lip. We're very close now and don't know what he's doing or what I should do.

Suddenly, as he regained his senses, he quickly pulled his face from me. I gasped softly at his sudden movements. For a moment, I couldn't react

What the hell just happened?

Devan avoided eye contact with me and he looked a little upset.

An awkward silence enveloped us and I was eager to escape from this situation. He also did not help by gazing forward towards the rising sun.

I racked my brain to look for something to say, and I finally found the only thing I believed could melt the atmosphere between us.

"Yes God! There's a snake, right there!" My yelling.

The reaction was very quick. Devan appeared, grabbed my hand and pulled me up. He pushed me behind his back and started to retreat

"Where? Where's?" He asked, frantically looking for the snake.

I laughed out loud looking at his face, which was priceless

Catching my joke, Devan riled up and stepped towards the car

"Are you coming or should I leave you here? I don't mind that" he said.

I rolled my eyes at him, saw the sunrise for the last time and walked back towards him.
